The Propelling Social Ventures Conference 2013-Vancouver Convention Centre
Social ventures are companies or organizations that seek to create measurable social and environmental impact through a business and revenue model. This combination creates long lasting social or environmental impact that is achieved in a financially sustainable way. Through the social venture model, the business sector plays an important role in creating social and environmental benefit for society.
Around the world social ventures are demonstrating the impact and social innovation that can be created through business models. But there is still a lot of untapped potential. We’ve seen what social ventures can achieve; now we want to see more social ventures creating impact.
Propelling Social Ventures 2013 will bring together social entrepreneurs, the business community and social innovators to explore how various stakeholders can contribute to more social venture activity in British Columbia, Canada, and beyond. The topics explored will include:
- What are the various models for creating impact through business?
- Examples of successful social ventures and the factors that led to their success
- The role of incubator and accelerator models in supporting social ventures
- What support do the entrepreneurs really need?
- How can students and professionals engage with social ventures?
- What are the models for scaling social ventures and their impact?
- How can the business community engage with social ventures?
Propelling Social Ventures 2013 will also feature:
- Keynote speakers including leading North American social innovators and funders of social innovation
- A student internship pitch competition where students will compete for one of 7 internships at the CCS Innovation Hub
- An innovation jam where conference participants will have the opportunity to actively engage and innovate
The first annual Propelling Social Ventures 2013 Conference is brought to you by the Coast Capital Savings Innovation Hub. As part of the ISIS Research Center at the Sauder School of Business at UBC, the CCS Innovation Hub is a newly launched accelerator program for promising social ventures in BC. The Coast Capital Savings Innovation Hub offers a dynamic space to accelerate social venture growth by bringing together university resources, access to new networks, peer learning, and improved investment readiness. The Innovation Hub is defined by its passionate community and collaborative environment.
