Holidays & Resume – A Great Mix!

Congratulations to all of you for completing the business plan presentations and entering into a well-deserved break.

With the MBA Games, and a new academic period beginning in January, you will be busy. We strongly encourage you to make the time to get your resume revisions done and back to Rodrigo/Mary in the next 2 weeks. Rodrigo is in the office next week and they will both be around on the 2-4th. Ideally, by January 7th, all resumes are done and we have a resume book for your class to show to our contacts.

Marketing the resume book is contingent on all of you getting your resume done. So, grab some egg nog, put on some holiday tunes, cuddle up with your laptop, and get working on that resume. Thanks all.

Save the Date: Welcome Back Jan. 8th

We wanted to let you know that together with the programs team, we will be having an all-hands session on Tuesday, January 8th from 4-6pm. Welcome Back is an opportunity for  the careers and programs teams to share information about upcoming academic programming, and need-to-knows pertaining to summer internships and entrepreneurial projects as well as give you all an opportunity to ask questions about the programming going forward.

For those of you interested, we will be covering internship historical statistics, resources, process and strategies to set you up for success.

ePortfolio Categories Live

Following up on eportfolios, I wanted to let you know that as of this past Monday, categories in your blog/eportfolio are now live. They are:

  • My interests and passion
  • My purpose and direction
  • My skills (with subcategories)
  • My business competencies (with subcategories)

We know you are busy now, so this is just an FYI. I will follow-up next week with more details on posting, and how to push a post to the public aggregator (portfolio). Thanks.

Business Card Ordering

All students are strongly encouraged to order business cards through the Sauder School of Business by completing an online web form at the link provided below.

Business cards are powerful networking tools and the most professional way to present yourself to the business community.  By ordering through the Sauder channel students will not only receive high-quality business cards but will benefit from aligning themselves with the Sauder/RHL brand.  As you know the Sauder brand has strong awareness and positive recognition from the business community across Canada.

When placing your order please follow these guidelines:

  • Ensure the program name is listed in full:  “MBA Candidate, Class of 2014”
  • Ensure that you put “2014” (not ’14)

Example:

John Smith
MBA Candidate, Class of 2014

Example for MBAS or Club Executives:

John Smith
MBA Candidate, Class of 2014
MBA Student Society, VP External

Additionally, please ensure that per the guidelines under “My Image Tools” in the BCC Connect site, you should use a professional looking email address.

You can place your order at the following link: http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/Resources/The_Store/business_cards

Students are strongly encouraged to place their orders through our business school as our overarching goal is to present a consistent and strong brand identity for the MBA program. However students wishing to order business cards through outside agencies should adhere to the guidelines provided above regarding the program name and reference to the year of program completion. Please note that business cards ordered through outside agencies are not permitted to have the University or Sauder/Robert H. Lee logo incorporated due to copyright.

Timing Note: There is approximately, a 10-day lead time to receiving your cards. The BCC-hosted Business Now Event is in October 30th. If you are planning on attending, please leave plenty of time. Do not hesitate to contact your Graduate Careers team at the BCC if you have any further questions on this.
