Canadian Youth Business Foundation: Nov 5
Do you have a million business ideas a week? Do you love the idea of being your own boss? Do you dream of opening your own store or launching your app?
We want to support you! We are the Canadian Youth Business Foundation – a national non-profit that supports young entrepreneurs through funding & mentorship. At our session, we will talk about what it takes to get your business going, how to access resources (including money!) that are available to you in BC, and we will showcase some of our awesome entrepreneurs. We will also teach you a little bit about credit scores- they may sound boring, but they may just be the thing that will hold you back from raising the capital you need to launch your dream.

Negotiation Mania: Oct 25
Hi Class,
Negotiation Mania is coming up soon (Friday, Oct. 25) and based on previous cohorts’ feedback – this is one of the marquee workshops of the year. Despite being a required activity – we need you to RSVP on COOL (RSVP closes Sunday) so your negotiation time-slots and scenarios for the afternoon can be prepared and communicated in advance.

o Salary Negotiation Workshop, delivered by Barry Howard
· Lunch (12:30 – 1:30)
o Some of our Negotiation Mania volunteers will be joining us for lunch
· Afternoon – Salary Negotiation Practice (1:45 – 5:00pm)
o 15-20 Volunteers (HR Managers, Recruiters) – so you get a chance to practice your salary negotiations skills. Each student will get several chances of practicing his/her salary negotiation skills in a speed dating format. You will receive the mock scenarios and your time-slot Tuesday afternoon.

Girls Raising Vancouver: Presentation & Panel Oct 29
Girls Raising Presentations are a unique series of events geared towards helping women founded startups get publicity, network with like-minded entrepreneurs, and meet influential women and men that can move their businesses forward.
The inaugural Vancouver event will be held on October 29th at 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the new Facebook offices in downtown Vancouver (1555 West Pender St). This comes hot off the heels of their first two New York City events of the same nature, where Girls Raising partnered with some of NYC’s most well-known women founders and investors. This event will be an opportunity for founders, entrepreneurs, investors, and anyone interested in startups to share, network and learn from the successes and some mistakes of those rallying behind entrepreneurial women and their endeavours.

Negotiation Mania: Oct 25
As you move forward towards your MBA career, knowing how to effectively negotiate the compensation package that is right for you will be key. Our MBA stats indicate that students who negotiate, end up with higher salaries over those who do not.
Barry Howard, Senior Career Consultant from TOOMBS Inc., an international recruitment and career planning firm, will speak to the ins and outs of effective salary negotiation.
