Pre-MBA Checklist

Are you ready for your UBC MBA program? Go through the checklist to ensure that you are prepared to start your program.

(NOTE: This list will be updated with new items periodically as you progress through the program, and we’ll remind you to keep checking back!)

To Do in August:

1. If you haven't already looked at the Academic Prep resources, you still have time. 81% of students last year completed some of the prep - invest in your peace of mind later by looking at this now!
2. Now: Review the Period 1 Course Outlines, note any pre-readings and assignments, and secure any indicated study materials . You will find the list of classes you are taking in P1 on your Program Schedule.
3. After August 8th: Review your Period 1 Course Sites on Canvas. When you log into Canvas you should see these listed on your Dashboard as of August 8th. When you click into them you will see some course content.
4. After August 8th: Review the Opening Week schedule and reading list (to be released shortly). Attend mandatory MBA Opening Week: August 27 - August 31, 2018.
5. After August 8th: Sign up for a locker. Link to be released shortly.
6. Obtain and activate your Graduate Student UBCcard online. This can be done online in advance or in-person during Opening Week (this is peak time though, and will be busy).
NOTE: You need the card to enter the graduate classroom area, MBA lounge, and breakout rooms.
7. Load your U-Pass BC onto an adult-class Compass Card after August 15th, 2018. See instructions on how to acquire your Compass Card and request your monthly pass. Please note you won't be able to use your U-Pass until September 1, 2018.
8. Sign up to participate in the MBA Society Sailing Regatta which will take place Friday August 25th - for more details, click here.
9. Sign up to participate in the MBA Society Welcome Boat Cruise, which will take place on Friday August 31st. This sells out every year, so get your ticket while you can!
10. Create your UBC Sauder Computer Lab EAD (Enterprise Active Directory) account. You will need this account to access the UBC student/alumni e-mail service and to access UBC Sauder’s computer labs and network services.
11. Update your Vancouver-based contact information on the Student Service Centre
12. Check out the UBC MBA Society website. You will be given more information about the MBA Society in September, and elections will be held to elect representatives from your class in October.
13. Fill out your Career Intake Questionnaire before Sept 30th.

Pre-August Checklist:

1. Mark your calendar – your program begins on Monday, August 27th with Opening Week. Attendance is mandatory for all students. This orientation programming will run five full days and into some evenings.
2. Explore all sections of this program site, and bookmark it on your computer - you will be notified as more sections of the site are made available over the coming months.

13.Complete the TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics and submit your certificate in Assignments within this Canvas site no later than Aug 20, 2018. Completing this certificate is mandatory.

NOTE: This course is free of charge.

During the UBC MBA program you will learn about and actively conduct market research as part of your coursework. This will include surveying and interviewing individuals and potentially conducting focus groups. As an institution dedicated to research excellence, the University of British Columbia meets federal guidelines by requiring all students who may engage in research with human participants to complete the TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics. This 2-3 hour online certificate course ensures that students understand the importance of research ethics and how to ethically conduct research involving human participants.
