The first tuition installment deadline will be in the first week of classes in September 2018. Exact dates will be published on the Student Service Centre in August so please ensure you logon to UBC SSC to check your payment deadline.

In addition to your tuition, there will also be student-levied fees charged by UBC for each installment. Student fees go towards covering the goods and services you receive from the UBC Alma Mater Society (AMS), including Extended Healthcare, your UPass (transit pass), access to the UBC Pool etc.The exact amount of tuition and student-levied fees as well as payment deadline will appear on the Student Service Centre prior to each month that tuition is due.

Students who do not pay their fees will be placed on financial hold; further registration activity will not be permitted and grades will not be released. Students will also be charged a processing fee and interest will be assessed on the outstanding balance until it is paid in full. You can view UBC's policy on fees for full details.

MBA Program Deposits

The $5,000 CAD deposit you paid to accept the offer to the UBC MBA will be credited toward your first tuition installment (September 2018). This amount will be transferred to your tuition account mid to late August.

From this point forward, all of your tuition payments will be done through the Student Service Centre (not the web site where you paid your initial deposit).

For information on the ways in which you can make a tuition payment, please visit the UBC tuition web site to learn about allowable Methods of Payment.

A student may be placed on financial hold as a result of outstanding indebtedness to the University, including tuition and student fees, parking and library fines, and Student Housing & Hospitality Services fees. Please note the following:

  • A processing fee of $35.00 will apply (in addition to the Interest Penalty).
  • No subsequent registration activity will be allowed.
  • No transcripts or diploma will be issued.
  • UBC Student Housing & Hospitality Services may refuse admission to residences, may withdraw residence and dining privileges, and require a resident to vacate the premises.

The financial hold will be removed when the outstanding balance, including all penalties, is paid in full.

Student Tax Information

In Canada, income tax is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The Canadian income tax year is from January 1 to December 31. If you owe income tax, you have to pay it by April 30 for the preceding calendar year.

Tuition Tax Receipts (T2202A, T4A, and Transit Tax Credit):

  • Students can access their tax receipts (T2202A-tuition, T4A-if you worked for UBC, and Transit Tax Credit-U-Pass) on the Student Service Centre (SSC)
  • Tax receipts are made available on the SSC in early February
  • Additional information on your T2202A receipts can be found on the SSC homepage under FAQ's/Finances

Awards & Scholarships

Award Payments:

Please note: Entrance Scholarships will not appear on the Student Service Centre (SSC) until mid to late August.

If you were awarded an Entrance Scholarship you would have been notified in your letter of acceptance to the MBA program. All awards and/or scholarships will be paid toward your tuition and any residual amount will then be issued by cheque or direct deposit. Students are encouraged to check their financial record on the Student Service Centre for confirmation of award installment amounts and dates. Normally, awards are paid out using the following payment schedule:

  • Under $1,000 - paid out entirely in one term
  • $1,000 - $5,999 - divided equally and paid out in two terms
  • over $6,000 - paid out over the three terms of the year (34% in September, 33% January, and 33% in May)

Awards & Scholarships:

Besides Entrance Scholarships, there will be a number of awards & scholarships available throughout your MBA program. All Full-time MBA students will automatically be considered for the majority of these awards & scholarships (ie: they will not require application).

If an award does require application, all students will be notified by the Robert H. Lee Graduate School. These opportunities with application information will be posted via the announcements on the class program site.

If you are a recipient of an award during the program, you may set up direct deposit or pickup the cheque in Brock Hall.
