Planning for a Better Future: UBC Sauder’s 2017-2022 Strategic Plan

Dear MBAN students,

Over the past five years, the UBC Sauder School has enjoyed gratifying success: growth in innovative programs, a stellar global reputation, recognition for world-leading research, continued esteem among the best students, and a place alongside the very best of our peers.

It is from this enviable position of strength that we set ourselves to the task of developing a refreshed strategic plan to help guide priorities and decision-making over the next five years.  Our goal was to craft a strategic plan that would hold true to the defining characteristics that have long been core to the school’s mission and culture, but that would also advance the school’s impact in emerging areas of societal importance.

What more might be possible if we choose to focus our efforts on how business excellence can serve the public interest?  What role should an internationally renowned business school play in the face of monumental and complex challenges facing society?  How do we equip leaders with the values, courage and wisdom to identify problems, work collaboratively, and seek innovative solutions?  These questions have been a source of much discussion and debate among faculty, students, staff, alumni, and corporate and community partners over the past year.  The new UBC Sauder Strategic Plan 2017-2022 is our collective response.

I am very grateful for the time and engagement that so many members of the Sauder community provided to this process.  The next phase of our work involves the development of actions that will implement the mission, vision and principles of the plan and be the subject of ongoing measurement, review and reporting to you and others in our community.

Thank you, and best regards,

Bob
