Financial Information

MBAN tuition is assessed as an annual program fee. Tuition is divided into three equal installments due at the beginning of each academic term in September, January & May.

Students pay their fees online through the Student Service Centre (SSC). Students are responsible for keeping up with tuition deadlines and student fees until the completion of their program.

MBAN Program Deposits

The $2,500 deposit you paid to accept your offer to the UBC MBAN program will be credited toward your first tuition installment (September 2019). This amount will be transferred to your tuition account mid- to late-August.

Tuition Payments & Fees

The first tuition installment deadline is Wednesday, September 4, 2019. This is the last day for payment of the first installment of fees.

Your MBAN tuition will be charged in three installments (early September, early January and early May). You can find domestic and international amounts on the UBC Calendar.

NOTES

  • All tuition payments must be done through the Student Service Centre (SSC)not the website where you paid your initial deposit.
  • Due to the UBC policy, only your initial tuition deposit may be made by credit card. Subsequent tuition payments may not be made by credit card.

Student Levied Fees

In addition to your tuition fees, there will also be student-levied fees charged by UBC included in each installment. The exact amount of tuition and student-levied fees as well as the payment deadline will appear on the SSC prior to each month that tuition is due.

If you would like to view a breakdown of tuition and student levied fees, you can find an itemized list attached to each installment listed on the Student Service Centre.

Students who have not paid their fees will be placed on financial hold. Further registration activity will not be permitted and grades will not be released. Students will also be charged a processing fee and interest will be assessed on the outstanding balance until it is paid in full.

Award Payments

If you were awarded an Entrance Scholarship you would have been notified in your letter of acceptance to the MBAN program. All awards and/or scholarships will be paid toward tuition and any residual amount will then be issued to the student. Students are encouraged to check their financial record on the Student Service Centre (SSC) for confirmation of award installment amounts and dates. Normally, awards are paid out using the following payment schedule:

      • Under $1,000 - paid out entirely in one term
      • $1,000 - $5,999 - divided equally and paid out in two terms
      • over $6,000 - paid out over the three terms of the year (34% in September, 33% January, and 33% in May).

NOTE: Entrance Scholarships will not appear on the SSC until mid- to late-August.

Tax Information for Students

In Canada, income tax is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The Canadian income tax year is from January 1 to December 31. If you owe income tax, you must pay it by April 30 for the preceding calendar year.

  • Tax receipts are made available to students by UBC in early February.
  • Students can access their tax receipts (T2202A-tuition, T4A-if you worked for UBC, and Transit Tax Credit-U-Pass) on the Student Service Centre (SSC).

 UBC Tax Assistance Clinics for Students

UBC Tax Assistance Clinic for Students is a student-run organization that assists students and low-income individuals prepare their tax returns from late-February to the end of March. Appointments can be made beginning in late-February of each year.
