Task Description

1. Get Up to Speed: Read through all sections of this program site - knowledge is power!

2.  Pre-MM Academic Prep: Read and review the all the material in this section

3. Housing: Check to make sure you have accommodation secured until the end of your MM program (end of December 2020)

4. Study Permit: Extend your permit (if needed) to last the duration of the MM program (see accordion section below)

5. Medical Coverage: Review your BC Medical Services Plan to make sure you have coverage for the duration of the MM program.

6. Contact Information: Moved?  Changed your email address or phone number? Update contact information on the Student Service Centre and let us know about any email address change.

7. MM Entry Form: Complete and submit on-line Personal Information Release form.

8. Introduce Yourself: Help build community! Go to the Discussions section of Canvas and submit some information about yourself. Visit the discussion board often, read up on your classmates and interact with them.

9. Save the Dates: Review and make note of Program Opening dates/times - attendance is mandatory so mark these days in your calendar and don't book any work or travel!

10. Research Ethics Certificate: It is mandatory for all students to complete the TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics and send a copy of the completion certification to askmm@sauder.ubc.ca  prior to the start of the program on Thursday, June 4, 2020. Already completed the course? Great!  You don't have to re-take it but do need to submit a copy of the certificate to askmm@sauder.ubc.ca (NOTE: this course is free of charge)

Task Description

1. Course Outlines: Review Summer Period 1 course outlines and complete any pre-readings.  Outlines will be posted as they are received.

2. Obtain your Graduate Student UBCcard before you start the MM (see accordion section below).   NOTE: Please ignore this section for now - due to COVID-19, UBC Carding Office is not open.

3. NEW!! Record and upload your introduction video (see announcement from May 21, 2020 for instructions)

4. NEW!! Send in your "Looking forward to" selfie to askmm@sauder.ubc.ca (see announcement from May 21, 2020 for instructions)

5. NEW!! Keep checking back in the "Media Gallery" to see if any of your fellow classmates have submitted videos and watch them.

6. NEW!! added May 29: Review the Program Overview video

7. NEW!! added May 29: Complete the Excelling with Integrity Module

8. Attend MM Program Opening: Thursday, June 4 & Friday, June 5, 2020 NOTE: Attendance is mandatory for all students

STUDY PERMITS

You must have a valid study permit in order to attend classes at UBC, therefore, all international students need to make sure that their study permit encompasses the entire length of the MM program (until the end of December 2020).

Check the end date of your existing study permit and begin the process of extending it as soon as possible in order to ensure you are able to continue your studies.

If you need a letter to extend your study permit, your home faculty can manually produce one for you.  To request a letter please contact:

All students must make sure their BC MSP coverage is extended until the end of the MM program. Questions can be forwarded directly to the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) regarding coverage extension.

NOTE: MSP premiums are NOT included in your tuition and fees.

mandatory EXTENDED MEDICAL PLAN

All students (both international and domestic) are automatically enrolled in and pay for the AMS/GSS extended medical plan. For more details on the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan, including the claim forms, visit studentcare.ca or the Health & Dental Plan Office (NEST 3128).

Opting Out

Students with equivalent health and dental coverage through a private plan (parent, spouse or employee plan) can opt out of the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan.

As a member of the MM program, you are now considered a graduate student at UBC and may obtain a graduate student UBCcard to replace your undergraduate card.

NOTE:  You must be registered in Master of Management courses before you can be issued a graduate UBCcard. Registration will be done for you by the RHL Graduate School and an announcement will be posted once complete.

STEPS TO Activate of YOUR UBCCARD

1. If you have an expired/existing UBCcard: Please bring your old card (UBCcards are re-issued at no cost within 2 months of the expiration date printed on the back of the card) to the UBC Access Desk located at the UBC Bookstore (6200 University Boulevard). To obtain your graduate card, you must identify yourself as a Sauder graduate student.
2. Once registration in courses has occurred, you will need to wait 24 hours to ensure that there has been activation.

LOST/STOLEN UBCcard

Lost or stolen UBCcards must be reported IMMEDIATELY. UBC departments (including the Bookstore, Library, Food Services, Housing, Athletics and others) assume no responsibility for fraudulent use of your UBCcard before the Lost or Stolen Card Notification Form is submitted and processed by the UBC Carding Office.
