While the content is similar and builds off the COMM courses, the delivery is dramatically different.<\/p>\n<div id=\"random-accordion-id-135\" class=\"accordion-shortcode  \">\n<h3 ><a href=\"#program-overview-0\" >Program Overview<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"program-overview-0\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/2021mmddprogram\/files\/2020\/01\/MM-DD-Class-of-2021-Academic-Program-Calendar-Aug-12-2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The MM Dual Degree program in a snapshot<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What's Different?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the MM, all students progress\u00a0through the program within a set, standard curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>Each Master of Management 1.5 credit course falls within a \"Period\".<\/li>\n<li>A Period is equal to about half a Term with <strong><em>5 weeks of concurrent instruction followed immediately by 1 week of evaluation (total 6 weeks).<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There are 4-5 courses per Period - a lot to pack into a short time-frame, so dig in and be prepared!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>NOTES:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Due to the set curriculum,\u00a0successful completion of every course is <strong>mandatory<\/strong>.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Unique Elements:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The following three courses run across several periods and are taken in addition to regular courses:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><b>BA 520: Career Development<\/b><strong>\u00a0Programming (CDP)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sauder.ubc.ca\/about-ubc-sauder\/locations\/ubc-campus\/hari-b-varshney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre<\/a> and dedicated career coaches, MM students gain valuable career and professional\u00a0development skills\u00a0through a curriculum that includes: self- assessment, research techniques,\u00a0resume and cover-letter\u00a0writing, interviewing and networking. CDP is a crucial component of the MM degree and will aid in finding employment prior to or after degree completion. CDP will provide the necessary tools for continuous professional development.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>BA 511: Community Business Project<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Community Business Project (CBP) combines community service with academic learning. During the project period, the CBP engages MM students in collaborative project work that enables application of classroom knowledge to real-world consulting projects with companies in the greater Vancouver community that operate within the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-profits<\/li>\n<li>Corporations with CSR initiatives or affiliations to social ventures<\/li>\n<li>Charities<\/li>\n<li>Environmentally-focused businesses<\/li>\n<li>Social enterprises<\/li>\n<li>Start-ups with community initiatives\/impacts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CBP builds community partnerships with organizations and community-based initiatives with strong social impacts. Through the CBP, students give back to their local communities by providing free business consulting services to organizations and projects that make a positive contribution to our local and global communities, citizens and environment.<\/p>\n<p>The CBP provides a high level of added value to the MM degree given that it involves relevant real-world experience that both employers and graduate schools value.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>BA 551: Capstone Course<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Capstone course is the finale of the MM experience. Working in teams, students will complete an intensive simulation that will test their ability to make business and managerial decisions. Capstone will apply the different concepts and skills learned throughout the program in a simulated environment.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 ><a href=\"#registration-course-fees-cours-1\" >Registration, Course Fees &amp; Course Materials<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"registration-course-fees-cours-1\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Registration<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>MM students don't need to register themselves in courses for the MM program - the Robert H. Lee Graduate School will take care of registration for all MM students!<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum is set and all students are required to take all courses. The RHL Graduate School will assign and register each student in one of the sections. <span style=\"color: #319b00;\"><strong><em>NOTE:<\/em> s<em>tudents are not permitted to switch sections nor attend a section they are not registered in.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Please disregard any notices from UBC Central regarding registration for the Summer and\/or Winter session. The MM program is on a different schedule than the rest of the university so the messages about registration do not apply.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Textbooks, Packages &amp; supplies<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The cost of of textbooks, course packages, course fees and supplies is not included in the price of tuition. The estimated amount for these items is approximately $2,000 for the 6-month program.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Course Fees<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Some courses may have a fee instead of a textbook. If this is the case the instructor should let students know via the course outline or in class. Payment can be made on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webforms.sauder.ubc.ca\/students\/pay-fees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sauder Store website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>NOTE: Course fees must be paid in order to receive credit for the course. Grades will be withheld from any student who does not pay the course fee.<\/em><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Course Packages and Textbooks<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Material for courses (packages &amp; textbooks) will generally be available at the UBC Bookstore or online. We try to have outlines up at least 3 weeks prior to the start of each Period and they will be linked to the course number below when they are ready.
