It is not possible to attend classes on a visitor\u2019s visa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Apply for your Study Permit as early as possible. Every year we have students who don\u2019t don\u2019t get their visas in time and cannot attend the program. If you have already applied manually, it is critical that you do not reapply online as this will only slow the process down.<\/li>\n<li>The RHL Office does not have the expertise to advise on your study permit application. If you have questions, please follow the steps above to contact David at International Student Advising.<\/li>\n<li>The processing times only show the time it took to approve or refuse 80 percent of applications during some time in the past. The costs of hospital and doctor care in Canada are very high if you are not insured. Without insurance, you could pay thousands of dollars per day for a hospital stay or even be refused certain services.<\/p>\n<p>There are two levels of insurance in Canada: basic and extended. Both types are required for UBC international students. Basic insurance plans cover costs such as doctor\u2019s visits and some hospitalization. Extended health care usually covers a portion of dental, prescription drugs and vision care (such as eye exams), among other things. If you have questions before you arrive in Canada, contact our International Student Advisor at <a href=\"mailto:intlubc@students.ubc.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">intlubc@students.ubc.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">All international students must apply for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/livewell\/health-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BC Medical Systems Plan (MSP)<\/a> <span style=\"color: #993300;\">as soon as they arrive in Vancouver<\/span> as there is a 3 month waiting period for BC MSP to take effect. <strong><em>NOTE:<\/em> The <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/topic.page?id=59DDCB8DB15241D899168C65EE095393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSP premiums<\/a> are not included in your tuition and fees.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Until they are covered by MSP, international students are automatically enrolled in UBC's <a href=\"http:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/livewell\/health-insurance\/imed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iMED<\/a> plan. iMED is a temporary basic health insurance plan required for new international students, and will provide you with health insurance coverage during the three month waiting period for BC's Medical Services Plan (MSP)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>All students (both international and domestic) are also automatically enrolled in and pay for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihaveaplan.ca\/rte\/en\/UniversityofBritishColumbiaAMSGSS_Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AMS\/GSS extended medical plan<\/a> through their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calendar.ubc.ca\/vancouver\/index.cfm?tree=14,267,784,0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">student fees<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 ><a href=\"#resources-2\" >Resources<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"resources-2\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<div>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #78be00;\"><strong>INTERNATIONAL STUDENT GUIDE<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Find everything you need to know about life as an international student at UBC's Vancouver campus in the <a href=\"http:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/international\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UBC International Student Guide<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #78be00;\"><strong>UBC INTERNATIONAL STUDENT DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<p>UBC International Student Development is located at the <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.ubc.ca\/PROD\/index_detail.php?show=y,n,n,n,n,y&amp;bldg2Search=&amp;locat1=790\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UBC Life Building<\/a> and is where international students can go to receive advising.<\/p>\n<h5>International Student Advising<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/about-student-services\/international-student-advising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Student Advisors<\/a> are all Regulated Citizenship and Immigration Consultants (RCICs) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIAs) and can help with your questions about life as an international student.<\/p>\n<p>They can provide comprehensive information and resources on all aspects of coming to study in Canada as well as employment, medical insurance and personal &amp; cultural transitions. If you are not sure where to go to get answers to your questions, ISAs can act as a starting point and guide you to the proper resources or services.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #78be00;\"><strong>ENGLISH LANGUAGE RESOURCES<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>While at UBC, there is <a href=\"http:\/\/guides.library.ubc.ca\/internationalstudents\/englishsupport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">English language support<\/a> to help you with both spoken and written English.
