Program Overview

A snapshot of the UBC IMBA Program:

The UBC IMBA Class of 2023 starts in November 2021.

  • November 2021 - June 2022: All students in the UBC IMBA program take exactly the same foundation courses.
  • April/May 2022: 2 weeks Vancouver Residency at UBC
  • July 2022–June 2023: All students take the Advanced courses and complete the Capstone Week together.
  • November 2023: Graduation

UBC IMBA students should become familiar with the following terms that are being used throughout the program:

  • Foundation Courses: courses covering the basic business and management subjects, mandatory for all students to take
  • Integrated Courses: courses which integrate across disciplines to develop your managerial decision-making skills, mandatory for all students to take. Examples include the Vancouver Residency and Capstone Week.
  • Advanced Courses: all other courses offered in the IMBA program
  • A course is scheduled every three to four weeks. It is worth 1.5 credits. A course is 20 class hours.

Courses will cover a variety of key subject areas. Not only will you learn the language of business, but you will develop the skills to understand business problems, make managerial decisions and communicate solutions, both as an individual and as part of a team.

Administration & Registration

Grade Requirements and Transcripts

Grade Requirements: The UBC IMBA program has strict Academic Standing & Grading Practices for all courses. Students must familiarize themselves with these grading requirements prior to the start of the IMBA.

Transcripts (SSC): If students require a copy of your UBC transcript you can order one via the Student Service Centre (SSC) and have it mailed directly or pick it up at Brock Hall. Unofficial transcripts can be printed from the Grades & Records > Your Grades Summary page of SSC. Please note: the RHL Graduate School and Business Career Centre cannot issue official or unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts can be ordered from Enrollment Services here.

The Robert H. Lee Graduate School will be registering all IMBA students in the required courses offered in the program.

Checking Your Registration

Students can check their registration information via the Student Service Centre (SSC) at any time during your program.

Deadline for Adding/Dropping Courses

More information can be found on Add-Drop Course Deadlines under Academic Regulations tile. Please note that foundation courses are mandatory. Should the need to drop one of these courses arises, students will need to make it up with the same course at a later date (i.e. with the next cohort). Advanced courses can be made up with credits from other advanced courses or RHL-approved Global experiences.

Email askimba@sauder.ubc.ca or the program adviser to add/drop courses.

Degree Progress

Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to track your own academic progress to ensure meeting the IMBA Graduation Requirement, while we will do our best to advise upon your request.

The Credit Tracking sheet below allows students to compare individual academic progress with degree requirements:

Click here to log into SSC where students can view all of the courses you have completed, are enrolled in, and the amount of credits each is worth. If students have any questions on tracking credit progress, they are encouraged to reach out to: askimba@sauder.ubc.ca

Rules on the Use & Distribution of Course Materials

Any materials posted on Canvas course sites will be available for you to access and download for four weeks after the final exam. As you will be using the intellectual property of external authors and/or UBC professors in your own studies, please be aware of the following rules around the handling and distribution of those materials:

  • Cases and readings are protected under copyright law and therefore you must not share these documents with anyone. Any official publications that are posted on a Canvas course site have copyright clearance for students enrolled this specific course only.
  • Class slides are the instructor’s property and most instructors do not want their slides to be distributed. If you have questions about this, please approach your instructor directly.
  • Exams/assignments/feedback must not be shared with students who may subsequently take the same course.

It is your responsibility to avoid copyright infringements and the distribution of materials that are intended for your use only.

Rules with Degree Progress

RHL students should use the designation "IMBA in progress” on resume, LinkedIn, email signature, business signature, etc. As a student in a Professional Master program, the term "candidate" should not be used because candidacy is not an officially recognized degree program status at the Master's level (it is intended for the doctoral level), based on UBC policy.
