Summer Study Abroad

Your Passport to a Global Perspective

MM Study Abroad programs take place during the summer months and vary in length from two to eight weeks.  If you want to gather first-hand knowledge about the culture and commerce of another country, and develop confidence to work on the world stage, take advantage of this exceptional opportunity.
Students participating in a Study Abroad program will gain extra credit for their MM and add another top business school to their resume.

You can review the Exchange Study Reports from students who have previously participated in Exchange here (password: mbaexchange).

  • Acceptance. Students accepted for the program will be notified by RHL prior to sending their nomination to the Host Institution. NOTE: acceptance by the RHL does not guarantee participation. Acceptance must be confirmed by the Host Institution. Participation is subject to policies as noted in the Mode of Delivery section below.
  • Enrolment. All students who are accepted in Summer Study Abroad must take the courses for credit and will be evaluated and given a grade by the instructor of each course. Students will receive a formal transcript from their host school
  • Credits. Credits vary from 1.5 to 4.5 UBC credits.  See the 2023 Summer Study Abroad Opportunities Document for credit details
  • Registration and Grades. Participating UBC MM students will be registered in a UBC course  "BA 530 Study Abroad and Exchange", which has a PASS/FAIL standing. You will need to achieve a passing grade in order to receive a PASS on UBC transcript. You will have actual grades on the permanent record and transcript of your host School

  • Course Withdrawal. Please be mindful of your personal, professional and academic obligations when applying for the Summer Study Abroad. If you wish to drop your program after being accepted, please make every effort to withdraw as soon as possible prior to the course start, to allow students on the wait list a chance to enrol and to prevent counting of the spot in the reciprocal exchange balance
Withdrawal once the course starts follows Sauder RHL Withdrawal policy, and should only be requested with a legitimate reason. Late withdrawal will count towards the reciprocal exchange balance for our school
  • Fees. There are no additional tuition fees associated with the Study Abroad and Exchange taken during MM. Some schools will charge social and accommodation fees - these are detailed in the 2023 Summer Study Abroad Opportunities Document
  • The Go Global fee ($415) will be assessed at a later time through the Student Service Centre (SSC). Please note that the fee will not be posted until after the Application deadline has passed. NOTE: Go Global Fee is refundable if you do not receive one of your choices for Summer Study Abroad
  • Mode of Delivery. Currently all of the partners listed are planning in-person delivery of their programs, with the exception of “Doing Business in China” program offered online.
  • *Note that some 2023 dates have not yet been confirmed. As programs are confirmed we will update the opportunities available.  Not all of the Summer Study Abroad opportunities listed are guaranteed to take place every year. Space is limited.

Yale Dual Degree Option

UBC MM - Yale MMS: GBS Dual Degree Option

UBC Sauder is the only Canadian member of the prestigious Global Network for advanced Management (GNAM), a global partnership of business schools spearheaded by the Yale School of Management. As a UBC Sauder student, you have the option to apply to the unique dual degree where you will gain both a UBC MM and a MMS in Global Business and Society (GBS) from the Yale School of Management.
The UBC MM and Yale GBS are complementary degrees. With the UBC MM, you gain business knowledge and skills that will help elevate your career. When paired with the Yale GBS, you also gain “the tools needed to thrive in global organizations and the broad perspective to know how best to use them.”

The MMS in Global Business and Society (GBS) from Yale is available to those who either have their MM or are currently working on their MM degree, and have less than 3 years of work experience. Only current MM candidates or alumni from the GNAM network are able to apply to this degree in the first round of admission.

How to apply

  1. Applicants may apply for both the UBC MM and the Yale GBS at the same time, through the M2M Program.  OR
  2. Current students, once accepted into the UBC MM may apply for the Yale GBS in the beginning months of the UBC MM program.
