Tuition will be broken into three equal instalments due in September, January and May.\u00a0<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>first tuition installment is due early September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>MM Program deposit<\/strong> that you paid to accept your offer of admission to the UBC MM will be credited toward your first tuition instalment (September 2022).<\/p>\n<p>Check out the \"<a href=\"https:\/\/canvas.ubc.ca\/courses\/93527\/external_tools\/31173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Information<\/a>\" page for more information.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: <\/strong><strong>What is the Sauder Building Fee and why am I paying it?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2006, the Sauder School of Business launched the Opening Worlds Campaign to support the revitalization of its facilities on UBC\u2019s Point Grey campus. In total, $52 million was raised with generous support from the community, as well as Sauder\u2019s undergraduate and graduate students, who pledged financial support through special building fees.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue from the fee will only be used to make payments on a mortgage and ensure building and facilities continue to be updated into the future. The fee will support a mortgage of approximately $20 million. Inflationary increases in the fee will be set aside in a discrete fund that will only be used with student consultation for the purpose of updating and renewing the facility. The fee will remain in effect for all Sauder students (BCom, Graduate, PhD) for the duration of the mortgage of approximately 35 years.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: <\/strong><strong>Why am I paying a MM Student Society fee?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each cohort and all programs at the RHL Graduate School have their own student society who will be the representatives and voice of your class while you are in the program. UBC has a <a href=\"https:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/international-student-guide\/international-immigration-health-insurance-faq-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">central website<\/a> that answers some frequently asked questions and contains links to government resources.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Q: I've got my study permit and am preparing to come to Vancouver. Is there anything I should know about COVID-19 and planning my trip?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are important steps to take before you plan your trip so it is imperative for you\u00a0 to <a href=\"https:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/new-to-ubc\/travelling-to-canada\/check-eligible\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">check to see if you are eligible to enter Canada<\/a> and understand the <a href=\"https:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/new-to-ubc\/travelling-to-canada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">process and requirements<\/a> before you travel.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: Is there a guaranteed length of a post-graduate work permit I can obtain after completing the MM?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are no guarantees as to what length of work permit Canada Immigration will grant anyone who applies. Each applicant is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and many factors are taken into consideration when making their decision. The length of permits can also vary from student-to-student depending on each of their circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 ><a href=\"#technical-requirements-6\" >Technical Requirements<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"technical-requirements-6\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Do I need a laptop to take the Master of Management?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is highly recommended that each student have their own laptop for the duration on the program. Program Opening is the official start of your MM and all students must attend. Absence from the opening may result in withdrawal from the program.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: <\/strong><strong>When will the schedule for 2022 Winter session be available?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The 2022W session schedule will be available by mid-July, 2022<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q:<\/strong> <strong>Do I have to be in Vancouver for this program?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yes, all MM students are expected to be in Vancouver, BC, Canada and settled into their accommodations by no later than August 29, 2022.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: I want to be ready for registration, where do I find the list of courses I\u2019m going to be taking so I can be prepared?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>No need to worry about registering for or getting into your courses! The RHL Graduate school will be registering all MM students into their set curriculum for 2022W later in the spring so you can relax and take that off your list of things to do. When it is ready, the schedule for the program will be posted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/canvas.ubc.ca\/courses\/93527\/external_tools\/31091\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Program Content section<\/a> of Canvas.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: I want to work during the program, is that advisable?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Because of the fast pace of the program, we do not advise students to work more than 8 hours per week until they go through the first set of courses. What surprises most students is how rapidly the courses are conducted and the volume of information that is delivered. Our recommendation is for each student to experience this and then determine whether or not they can take on additional work hours.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: I need to take classes that are scheduled around my work hours and\/or other obligations \u2013 what choices do I have for registration?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The MM program is a set, standard curriculum and registration will be done by the RHL Graduate School for each student. All students will be attending classes together each day.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 ><a href=\"#course-attendance-8\" >Course Attendance<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"course-attendance-8\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Q: How much of a course can I miss?<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can miss up to 20% of the total scheduled class hours for a course. Since the MM courses are condensed, this means only 4 hours of instruction can be missed before a student may be required to withdraw. If you do not have academic concession, the instructor is not obliged to provide any information on material missed. Check out the UBC \"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.calendar.ubc.ca\/vancouver\/index.cfm?tree=12,199,506,1625#24749\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professionalism, Attendance &amp; Behaviour<\/a>\" policy for additional information and UBC's policy on \"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.calendar.ubc.ca\/vancouver\/index.cfm?tree=3,329,0,0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Academic Concession<\/a>.\"<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: What is an \"academic concession\" vs. just an \"absence\"?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calendar.ubc.ca\/vancouver\/index.cfm?tree=3,329,0,0#26562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">academic concession<\/a> is something you must apply for in the event that you experience <strong>unanticipated events or circumstances<\/strong> that interfere with your\u00a0 ability to accomplish academic work. Examples of possible academic concessions are religious observances, medical circumstances, death in the family or a traumatic occurrence.<\/p>\n<p>If academic concession is granted, students may receive help from the RHL Graduate Programs office and instructors to help them navigate their circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>In cases of absence without academic concession being granted, due dates for assignments remain unchanged and instructors may deduct participation points for missed classes.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: How do I apply for an \"academic concession\"?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you think your situation falls within the regulations, you can make a request for academic concession by submitting the Academic Concession Request &amp; Declaration Form available <a href=\"http:\/\/webforms.sauder.ubc.ca\/academic-concession-rhlee\" target=\"info\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: Can I miss class to attend a job interview?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Attending a job interview does not fall under academic concession and would be an unexcused absence. We suggest first trying to re-schedule the job interview. Many employers understand conflicts between school and interviews and will accommodate a change. If you try and are not successful in moving the interview, contact <a href=\"mailto:askmm@sauder.ubc.ca\">askmm@sauder.ubc.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 ><a href=\"#community-business-project-cbp-9\" >Community Business Project (CBP) &amp; Capstone<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"community-business-project-cbp-9\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: What exactly is the Community Business Project (CBP)?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Community Business Project (CBP) is a 1.5 credit course in which students work in teams on projects for not-for-profit organizations and social enterprises in the Vancouver area. Student teams will be paired with a company and faculty advisor who will help guide them through the ins-and-outs of working on a real-life project for someone in the business community.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: Can we choose our own project for CBP?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Teams will be assigned to each project by the RHL Graduate programs office.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: I heard about Capstone but I\u2019m not really sure what it is or why we do it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Capstone is the culmination of your studies for the MM. It is an online business simulation in which teams compete against each other. You will be putting the information you have learned in your classes to practice as your team runs a company by making cross-functional and strategic decisions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: Can we miss part of Capstone due to travel or for other obligations?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As Capstone is only two days long, 100% of attendance at both of these days is mandatory. Students are not to make any travel plans and\/or schedule any appointments during Capstone as missing time may result in not passing the course and a delay in your graduation. The RHL will send completion letters to all eligible students once final grades have been submitted. This is typically 5-7 days after the last final deliverable.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 ><a href=\"#deferral-requests-11\" >Deferral Requests<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"deferral-requests-11\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: Can I defer my program start date to the August 2023 intake?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>No, students are unable to apply for a deferral. If you no longer wish to join the August 2022 intake you can withdraw your application (or from the program) and reapply for the next intake.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: What is the process for initiating a deferral request?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please send your request to Ning Liu, Manager, Recruitment &amp; Admissions Operations at <a href=\"mailto:ning.liu@sauder.ubc.ca\">ning.liu@sauder.ubc.ca<\/a> and CC <a href=\"mailto:mba@sauder.ubc.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mm@sauder.ubc.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The request should include the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The circumstances impacting the applicant's ability to start the program in August 2022;<\/li>\n<li>Confirmation of their ability to attend in August 2023, outlining how they expect the circumstances of their deferral to change or to be mitigated.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt 0in;\">Deferral requests will be reviewed within 1 week (5 business days). Applicants should accept the offer before requesting a deferral or submit the deferral request at least 1 week before the offer expiry date. If granted a deferral, applicants must accept their original offer of admission before the offer expires.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: When is the deadline for initiating a deferral request?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe last day to submit a request for deferral is <strong>April 12, 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> We will reserve a maximum of 15% of class capacity for deferrals. As there is a limited number of deferral opportunities, they will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be reconsidered for an entrance award \/ scholarship once we begin offering these to the August 2023 intake.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Q: If I defer my program start, will I get my program deposit be refunded?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>No. If your deferral request is approved, you will be asked to pay an additional <span class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"color: #78be20;\"><strong>deferral deposit of $2,500 CAD by October 26, 2021<\/strong> <\/span>in order to confirm your seat for August 2023.
