Through a combination of theoretical and practical teachings, numerous teamwork experiences, and applied projects, knowledge and skills will be gained that can be leveraged to forge a successful career and move toward becoming a future business leader<\/p>\n<div id=\"random-accordion-id-771\" class=\"accordion-shortcode  accordion-container\">\n<h3 ><a href=\"#pre-program-overview-0\" >Pre-program Overview<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"pre-program-overview-0\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><strong>Below you can find an overview of what to expect until the start of your program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/2023mm\/files\/2022\/01\/Expectation-setting-visual-MM.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Onboarding Timeline for the MM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div> <h3 ><a href=\"#program-overview-1\" >Program Overview<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"program-overview-1\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/2023mm\/files\/2022\/04\/MM-Classic-Class-of-2023-Academic-Program-Calendar_March-30-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MM Classic Class of 2023 Academic Program Calendar<\/a>\u00a0<em>(Posted April 1, 2022)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THE MM?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>In the MM, all students progress\u00a0through the program within a set, standard curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>Each Master of Management 1.5 credit course falls within a \"Period\".<\/li>\n<li>A Period is equal to about half a Term with\u00a0<strong><em>5 weeks of concurrent instruction followed immediately by 1 week of evaluation (total 6 weeks).<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There are 4-5 courses per Period - a lot to pack into a short time-frame, so dig in and be prepared!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>NOTE:\u00a0Due to the set curriculum,\u00a0successful completion of every course is\u00a0<strong>mandatory<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>UNIQUE ELEMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following three courses run across several periods and are taken in addition to regular courses:<\/p>\n<p><strong>BA 520: Career Development\u00a0Programming (CDP)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Working with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sauder.ubc.ca\/about-ubc-sauder\/locations\/ubc-campus\/hari-b-varshney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre<\/a>\u00a0and dedicated career coaches, MM students gain valuable career and professional development skills through a curriculum that includes: self- assessment, research techniques, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing and networking. CDP is a crucial component of the MM degree and will aid in finding employment prior to or after degree completion. CDP will provide the necessary tools for continuous professional development.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>BA 511: Community Business Project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Community Business Project (CBP) combines community service with academic learning. During the project period, the CBP engages MM students in collaborative project work that enables application of classroom knowledge to real-world consulting projects with non-profits and social enterprises in the greater Vancouver community.<\/p>\n<p>The CBP builds community partnerships with organizations and community-based initiatives with strong social impacts. Through this course, students give back to their local communities by providing free business consulting services to organizations and projects that make a positive contribution to our local and global communities, citizens and environment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>BA 551: Capstone Course<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Capstone course is\u00a0the finale of the MM experience. Working in teams, students will complete an intensive simulation that will test their ability to make business and managerial\u00a0decisions. Students can miss up to 20% of each course and can apply for an academic concession for their absence. Peer Assisted Study Sessions are highly interactive, 60-90 minute, small group sessions (3-12 people) that help students develop deeper knowledge of course content and practice effective, discipline-specific study strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Sessions are led by year-two MBA students and are planned in consultation with course instructors and TA\u2019s.\u00a0 Content is typically based on the previous week\u2019s lecture material, but is flexible based on attendees\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Additional information will be provided in-class for those courses offering this option.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As they become available, check each Canvas course site\u00a0to see if PASS is offered for that particular course.
