The first tuition installment deadline will be in the first week of classes in January 2021. Exact dates will be published on the UBC Student Service Centre (SSC) in late November/early December so please ensure you log on to check your payment deadline. In addition to your tuition, there will also be student-levied fees charged by UBC. Student fees go towards covering the goods and services you receive, including Extended Healthcare, your U-Pass (transit pass), access to the UBC Pool, etc.

If you wish to opt-out of the Extended Healthcare, you may inquire here. Please note that you are only able to apply for opting out during the change of coverage period. The details for this and the corresponding dates can be found here. You will be required to opt out each academic year.

Under certain circumstances, a U-Pass exemption may be granted. Details for eligibility and exemptions can be found here.

Students who do not pay their fees will be placed on financial hold; further registration activity will not be permitted and grades will not be released. Students will also be charged a processing fee and interest will be assessed on the outstanding balance until it is paid in full. You can view UBC's policy on fees for full details.

If your company is paying for part/all of your degree, information about sponsorship billing can be found on the Enrolment Services website here, which might be useful to you and your company. You can also email them at ubc.sponsorship@ubc.ca.

For other finance/payment questions, please contact an Enrolment Services Advisor at 604 822 9836 or toll-free at 1 877 272 1422 (more info here) for specific information about payment methods. (Even though their webpage mentions undergraduate students, rest assured that they are the right people for graduate students to contact too.)

Textbook & Course Fees

When you were applying to the program you may have seen the Student Expenses Summary that we provided for you on the Sauder website in order to give you an idea of the amount of money you would need to budget to cover your costs while in the PMBA program. Please refer to this summary for full details.

Textbooks, Course Fees & Supplies: Please keep in mind that academic books and supplies may cost more than you anticipated. We suggested $2,500-$3,500 as an approximate budget. The total cost for your academic supplies will vary depending on which courses you take during your program - some courses will have a mandatory course fee, which is usually levied to cover the cost of Online Course Packages or non-traditional academic materials (eg: to cover the cost for speakers or activities included in the course).

Financial Hold

A student may be placed on financial hold as a result of outstanding indebtedness to the University, including tuition and student fees, parking and library fines, and Student Housing & Hospitality Services fees. Please note the following:

  • A processing fee of $35.00 will apply (in addition to the Interest Penalty).
  • No subsequent registration activity will be allowed.
  • No transcripts or diploma will be issued.
  • UBC Student Housing & Hospitality Services may refuse admission to residences, may withdraw residence and dining privileges, and require a resident to vacate the premises.
  • Parking and Access Control may withdraw parking privileges and tow vehicles.
  • The Library may withdraw borrowing privileges and electronic access.

The financial hold will be removed when the outstanding balance, including all penalties, is paid in full.

Student Tax Information

In Canada, income tax is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The Canadian income tax year is from January 1 to December 31. If you owe income tax, you have to pay it by April 30 for the preceding calendar year.

Tuition Tax Receipts (T2202A and T4A)

  • Students can access their tax receipts (T2202A-tuition and T4A-if you worked for UBC) on the Student Service Centre (SSC)
  • Tax receipts are made available on the SSC in early February - note that your deposit made in 2020 will apply to your 2021 tax return, the year that the program begins.
  • Additional information on your T2202A receipts can be found on the Student Service Centre (SSC) homepage under FAQ's/Finances
