{"id":792,"date":"2019-01-17T13:10:07","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T20:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/2021fulltimeubcmba\/?page_id=792"},"modified":"2024-01-17T16:34:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T23:34:23","slug":"program-content","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/2024imba\/program-content\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Content"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"random-accordion-id-484\" class=\"accordion-shortcode  \">\n<h3 ><a href=\"#program-overview-0\" >Program Overview<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"program-overview-0\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><strong>A snapshot of the UBC IMBA Program<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>The UBC IMBA Class of 2024 starts in November 2022.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>November 2022 \u2013 June 2023<\/strong>: Opening Residency and Foundation courses<\/li>\n<li><strong>April\/May 2023:<\/strong> Two-week Vancouver Residency at UBC Point Grey Campus<\/li>\n<li><strong>July 2023 \u2013 June 2024:<\/strong> Advanced courses and the Capstone Residency as the completion of the program<\/li>\n<li><strong>November 2024:<\/strong> Graduation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following terms below are commonly used throughout the IMBA program. You may want to get familiar with them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Foundation Courses: <\/strong>courses covering the basic business and management subjects, mandatory for all students to take<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integrated Courses (Residencies)<\/strong>: courses which integrate across disciplines to develop your managerial decision-making skills, mandatory for all students to take. They are Opening Residency, Vancouver Residency, and Capstone Residency.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advanced Courses: <\/strong>all other courses offered in the IMBA program<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>course<\/strong> is scheduled every three to four weeks. It is worth 1.5 credits. A course is 20 class hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Courses will cover a variety of key subject areas. Our Summer Study Abroad with select global exchange partners will give you a chance to select from a range of short-term options.\u00a0 The University of British Columbia\u2019s Sauder School of Business is the only Canadian member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/advancedmanagement.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM)<\/a>, an international partnership spearheaded by the Yale School of Management dedicated to integrating international experience into graduate business education.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnetwork.io\/programs\/network-weeks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Global Network Weeks<\/strong><\/a> (GNW) available through GNAM give MBA students and faculty the opportunity to pursue intensive study at another network school in short courses that leverage the institutions\u2019 perspectives, programs and faculty expertise. Alongside their network counterparts, students attend classes, tour local businesses, and meet with experts focused on current regional business problems. (IMBA students can participate in the\u00a0 June and March GNW)<\/p>\n<p>Below please find more information on the\u00a0<strong>GNAM Network Week (GNW) courses for<\/strong> <strong>June 12-16, 2023 Application Information. June 2023 GNW will be held IN-PERSON.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 January 9th, 2023,\u00a0 11:59PM Shanghai time.<\/strong> Apply by filling out a short application form (see Application Form link below) with your top 4 choices<strong>. <\/strong>Please read important information below prior to applying.<\/p>\n<p>Please note we will <strong>not be able to accept late applications.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Schools\/Topics\/Dates<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> You can view the list of participating Schools, topics and dates on the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnetwork.io\/programs\/network-weeks\/2023\/global-network-week-emba-students-june-2023-person\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Network Website for June 2023<\/a>.\u00a0 Students can also choose the UBC Sauder Global Network Week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Obligations:<\/strong> Please note that you must attend all of your regularly scheduled classes according to the Professionalism, Attendance and Behavior Policy, so once your GNW participation is confirmed, please adjust your schedule accordingly. Should there be a timing conflict, students may need to choose between the academic\/career activity and the Global Network Week. Should there be a timing conflict with a regularly scheduled class or exam and the Global Network Week, students will need to drop the regular course or choose between the course and GNW, since concurrent registration is not permitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If choosing the Fudan online course,<\/strong> it is imperative that students double check the timing equivalence in their time zone for the sessions and attend all the live sessions despite the time difference. Reliable internet connection is required for attendance.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Format<\/u><\/strong>: Courses will be held in person by participating partner schools during the week. Please be prepared for the additional time required to travel to and from the location. One exception to this is ONLINE Module by Fudan University: Innovative China: towards sustainable growth<\/p>\n<p>Pre-work is typically assigned and readings and materials are made available to students a few weeks in advance. Students may be placed in project teams and will be required to give a team presentation or submit an assignment at the end.<\/p>\n<p>Please review the course outlines for information on the times, format, assignments and expectations for the courses you're interested in.\u00a0 Check back with the <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnetwork.io\/programs\/network-weeks\/2023\/global-network-week-emba-students-june-2023-person\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Network website<\/a> for any updates.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Credits<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0 You will earn <strong>1.5 credits<\/strong> as an elective towards your MBA degree upon successfully completing the course. Students may receive a grade, mostly based on the final project\/assignment, from their host school, and will receive a PASS on their UBC Transcript. Students must attend all scheduled sessions\/classes and completed all required course work and assignments to receive credit.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Costs<\/u><\/strong>: There\u2019s no extra tuition associated with taking a GNW course. Students are responsible for their own expenses related to travel and stay (if applicable), such as flights, accommodations, most meals and incidentals. Some meals, such as networking receptions, will be provided.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Network<\/u><\/strong>: The range of numbers that each participating school will host is from 10-60 students from among all partner schools. Each school can typically send 1-5 students to any given course. The June 2023 network consists of 1,200+ students at 20 participating partner schools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_eLGU405Yqr8oR26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Application FORM<\/strong><\/a>:\u00a0 If you are interested in applying to participate, please submit your top 4 choices by filling out this <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_eLGU405Yqr8oR26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">short application form<\/a> by January 9th, 2023,\u00a0 11:59PM Shanghai time.<br \/>\n<\/strong>We will receive spot allocations from the GNAM network in late January 2023 and will be able to inform everyone about the results shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>Please check your selections carefully before submitting the form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection Process:<\/strong> In case where a school is oversubscribed, lottery method will be used to determine selection. Students who were not drawn for their first choice school will then be entered into the lottery for their second choice school, and so on,\u00a0<u>as long as seats are still available<\/u> for those schools. \u00a0\u00a0If the overall demand exceeds the total number of seats assigned to us, it is an unfortunate reality that some students <strong>might not be selected for any of their preferred schools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Our School may be able to receive a total number between 40 and 60 seats for all of our students\/programs for the June GNW.\u00a0 We will receive the upper range of seats if our students apply for a wide variety of schools\/courses. If most of our students apply for a small number of highly sought-after schools (including Yale, UC Berkeley, Said, Hitotsubashi, IE Madrid etc.), the total number of seats assigned to us will be much smaller. Some students may not receive any offer of a spot if the number of seats assigned to us exceeds the number of our student applications, or if many students apply for the highly oversubscribed schools.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions, please contact RHL Global Team at rhlglobal@sauder.ubc.ca<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div><h3 ><a href=\"#administration-registration-4\" >Administration &amp; Registration<\/a><\/h3><div id=\"administration-registration-4\" class=\"accordian-shortcode-content \" ><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Grade Requirements and Transcripts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Grade Requirements:<\/strong> The UBC IMBA program has strict <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calendar.ubc.ca\/vancouver\/index.cfm?tree=12,199,506,1625#24676\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Academic Standing &amp; Grading Practices<\/a>\u00a0for all courses. Students must familiarize themselves with these grading requirements prior to the start of the IMBA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transcripts (SSC):<\/strong> If students require a copy of your UBC transcript you can order one via the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssc.adm.ubc.ca\/sscportal\/servlets\/SRVSSCFramework\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Student Service Centre (SSC)<\/a> and have it mailed directly or pick it up at Brock Hall. Unofficial transcripts can be printed from the Grades &amp; Records &gt; Your Grades Summary page of SSC. Please note: the RHL Graduate School and Business Career Centre cannot issue official or unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts can be ordered from Enrollment Services <a href=\"https:\/\/students.ubc.ca\/enrolment\/records\/ordering-transcript\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>The Robert H. Lee Graduate School will be registering all IMBA students in the required courses offered in the program.<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Checking Your Registration<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Students can check their registration information via the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssc.adm.ubc.ca\/sscportal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Service Centre (SSC)<\/a>\u00a0at any time during your program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Deadline for Adding\/Dropping Courses<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">More information can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/2023imba\/files\/2018\/04\/Add-Drop-Course-Deadlines-in-Robert-H.-Lee-Graduate-Programs-April-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Add-Drop Course Deadlines<\/a> under Academic Regulations tile. Should the need to drop one of these courses arises, students will need to make it up with the same course at a later date (i.e. with the next cohort). As you will be using the intellectual property of external authors and\/or UBC professors in your own studies, please be aware of the following rules around the handling and distribution of those materials:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Cases and readings <\/em><\/strong>are protected under copyright law and therefore you must not share these documents with anyone.
