Library & Research Tools

The Library is your virtual gateway in accessing quality research data. As Canada’s leading academic business school, your assignments and projects require you to find high quality information that will give you valuable insights in this highly competitive industry.

Your Librarian

Hello! My name is Kimberly Fama and I am your designated IMBA Librarian.

Everyone has different interpretations of what a librarian does and all the more when there is no access to the physical library. For now, all you have to remember is that I am always here to provide support if you have any questions on business research.  In your program, research is vital in producing valuable insights that will bring your output to a whole new level.

I know that research takes time and time is scarce. I understand this because I was in a similar situation as you are, where I was taking my MBA classes weekends and nights as I was working eight-ten hours a day. It's not because I am a librarian that I am telling you this, but from my experience (when I was halfway through my Masters) I realized that doing research actually saved me more time that I can imagine. The more I read, the more I had something smart to write about! I was very sure about my recommendations as I was synthesizing data off actual articles and reports written by internationally recognized analysts and authors.

So, please give me a chance to blow your mind with the resources we have available throughout your program at UBC Sauder!

Instructional Videos

Introduction
I like to make videos because I think it is a better way to show and tell our databases here at the David Lam Library. Remember to check back as I will upload regularly throughout the term, timing it with courses which I think will be a great fit with our selected databases. Here is an introductory video* to start things off!

IMBA Research Guide
When using our David Lam Library site, one of the things that you will often use at the beginning would be our research guide. Here is a quick tutorial* that can show you how to navigate the IMBA guide to get access to our resources effectively.

Citing

Citing is necessary to give credit to others for their work and ideas as you are borrowing their information for your work. Also, citing high quality sources shows that you know what you’re talking about, making your work and conclusions more credible.

I have made a quick guide that will allow you to get a sense of what citing is like. In this document, I only focused on electronic sources and there are many links I have included to give you more direction in citing them.
