Data and Workflow

Data  Use Processing Technique
Freshwater Atlas Wetlands  Preserve and determine the proportion of wetlands overlapping with proposed developments. Intersect with Major Projects Inventory and create Euclidean Distance raster for MCE
Major Projects Inventory  Use to determine area of overlap with wetland and avoid in MCE. MCE
BC Major Cities Points 1:2,000,000

 (Digital Baseline Mapping)

Buffer and avoid in MCE. MCE
BC Transport Lines 1:2,000,000

(Digital Baseline Mapping)

Buffer and avoid in MCE. MCE
Soil Landscapes of Canada

Version 2.2

Prioritize soils most similar to wetlands (poorly drained) MCE
Major Road Networks Avoid impervious surfaces. MCE
Groundwater Prioritize shallow groundwater.  Use Kriging to interpolate a continuous raster surface for use in MCE

– Reprojected to BC Albers

– Clipped to BC boundary

BC SPOT Elevation Points 1:2,000,000

(Digital Baseline Mapping)

Use in interpolation of groundwater (co-kriging). Use as input for co-kriging as 2nd surface to help interpolate the first surface.
Digital Elevation Model  Used to derive slope raster which will subsequently be used to  prioritize areas with low slope.

CDEM is available at a resolution of approximately 79 m

MCE

– Reprojected DEM to BC Albers using Bilinear interpolation

– Clipped raster to BC boundary

– Converted to slope

Freshwater Stream Network  Prioritize close proximity to streams. MCE
BC River, Lake and Wetland Polygons 1:2,000,000

 (Digital Baseline Mapping)

Select by attributes (TAG = Lake) and use in MCE to avoid major lakes. MCE
ALC ALR Polygons Use in MCE model to prioritize agricultural land. MCE
Groundwater Wells and Aquifers Use in MCE to prioritize shallow groundwater.  MCE
