Backcountry activities are becoming increasingly popular particularly in the mountains surrounding Whistler village. Adventure seekers are pushing the limits by venturing further out of bounds in search of the perfect run. This has led to many individuals putting themselves in great danger by unknowingly trespassing upon hazardous avalanche terrain. The goal of our project was to create a map displaying various regions that could be dangerous to tourists, allowing them to make more informed decisions when venturing into the backcountry. The five factors that we chose to analyze were Elevation, Slope Angle, Slope Aspect, Slope Curvature and Wind Speed. With these factors considered, we were able to perform a multi-criteria analysis which produced a final map displaying the various regions that are highly susceptible to avalanche formation.
