I had my Community Field Experience (CFE) experience at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The public program there for art education provides gallery tours and art related workshops for school groups from K to 12. Students will come in to the gallery on field trips; and my join is to work with the public program team to come up and test out the gallery tours as well as the workshops. It is very similar to writing short lesson plans. But the process of finalizing the tours and workshops is completely different from how it would be done in a school setting. The lesson plans are made by collective knowledge from many people. The plans are tested at least 3 to 4 times before the tours and workshops are opened up to the public.
Through out the process of my CFE, I feel I no long know how to make a well rounded and highly efficient lesson plan without the inputs of other experts in a collective group. I think this is important to my teaching practice because it kind of forces me to constantly consult with people and colleagues to refine and improve my lesson plans in the future. And I do believe this is a good thing because all the students I will be having would receive differently, so my lessons should not be planed from my single perspective of how I think the lesson could be best delivered.
