Letter to the Intended: Witness, Writing, and the Writer



DUE TO STUDENT STRIKE FOR PALESTINE, THE SEMINAR IS CANCELLED.  There are three options, none of which are mandatory except for the comment.

  3. Join an off-campus conversation, Tuesday March 25, 2-3, place to be determined, if you plan to come let me know by responding to survey so I know numbers. ‘Hosts’ no longer have to perform this role unless otherwise discussed. 

    Expectation:  you are required to do the readings and comment by Friday March 28 – and in doing so, please read and comment based on self-reflexivity. Comments are NOT summaries.  Refer back to course expectations if you are unsure. You reflect on the talks if you attend, or the strike, to incorporate into your reflections of the reading that week

Juliane’s recent book of poetry, A is for Acholi, was shortlisted for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award and won the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. Her previous collection, 100 Days, reflected on the meaning of memory two decades after the Rwandan genocide. It was nominated for the BC Book Prize, the Pat Lowther Memorial Award, and the Canadian Authors Award for Poetry, and won the Glenna Luschei Prize for African Poetry. Her most recent book of poetry, Song and Dread, is published by Talonbooks. Juliane is currently an assistant professor in Black Studies,  joint-appointed in English and Gender Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. We, the Kindling, her first novel, is being published in several countries and languages.
