Build, Simulate, and Evaluate Future Energy Systems

As governments, utilities, and industries work toward net-zero emissions, energy system modelling has become an essential tool for evaluating technology pathways, investment decisions, and policy options. This workshop introduces participants to OSeMOSYS (Open-Source Energy Modelling System), a powerful and widely used open-source platform for long-term energy planning and clean energy analysis.

OSeMOSYS helps researchers, engineers, and policymakers identify cost-effective energy system configurations while satisfying energy demand, environmental targets, and policy constraints. Thanks to its flexibility, transparency, and zero licensing cost, it is used worldwide for academic research, capacity building, and energy policy development.

  • Develop and interpret a Reference Energy System (RES).
  • Build an OSeMOSYS model by defining energy resources, demands, and technologies.
  • Enter technical, economic, and emissions-related data.
  • Implement user-defined constraints and calibrate model performance.
  • Design and compare alternative energy scenarios.
  • Visualize and interpret modelling results to support decision-making.

Workshop Format

This workshop is highly interactive and emphasizes active learning through guided examples and hands-on exercises. Participants will develop and run their own energy system models and explore alternative pathways for future energy systems.
