Social Entrepreneurs Needed!

Social Entrepreneur’s bring hope and light through their business models as they are not only concerned about generating revenue but also are concerned about helping the social community.Social Entrepreneurs such as Shega Shero Eatery and projects such as the Arc Initiative are the reason why we need social Entrepreneurs besides a fully funded United Nations.Big Organizations such as the United Nations cannot reach out to all the people in the world, thus social entrepreneurs do what the United Nations cannot.Social Entrepreneurs act as role models and inspire other individuals with bright ideas to start their businesses in places they could never have imagined to operate in.

Sauder’s Arc Initiative is necessary as it helps entrepreneurs to formulate and plan their business model canvases and provides them with funding. The Arc Initiative looks to set up businesses in small and unrecognized areas by sending individuals or small groups of people. This initiative helps to develop the economy in the underdeveloped areas as well as motivates other entrepreneurs to pitch their businesses there. The Arc initiative helped Shega Shero Eatery to take advantage of the “untapped”Ethiopian food packaging industry and helped her to create a competitive advantage over others. Her Differentiation strategy in packing and packaging products not only helped her business to flourish but also made her profits.

“People Like You” or “You”?

A company always recycles its employees-some go and some are employed .To get the same or possibly better service from its employees, a company has to be very careful in how they recruit their employees. In Seth Godin’s Blog, Seth talks about how during selection, the job applicants are told that “people like you” cannot be hired due to various reasons. He also goes on to say that there is a difference between “people like you ” and “you”.

Selection is thus considered as a negative process-the process of eliminating the good from the average ones.Employees should not get discouraged by the interviewer’s attempt to pick out a needle in a haystack but should create an impact on the interviewer’s mind such that they remember “you” and not “people like you”.

Seth also goes on to say that this broad generalization of people eliminates choice and creates a stressful environment for people to work in.I feel that this elimination of people is necessary as it is done for the benefit of the business.Different businesses have different goals and objectives but they all work towards achieving maximum efficiency.

Doing what Others Cannot!

The market today is growing wider and wider and companies look for a focus differentiation strategy to distinguish their product from others. In Raza Razi’s Blog,he has spoken about how a different and out of the box marketing strategy can lead to the success of a firm.Small scale and new companies often use this strategy to promote their business.Marketing today has become the backbone of the business-even if the business idea is not that great but is marketed well,it is expected to do well.

Businesses should detect an early warning signal in the market they are functioning in and create a first movers advantage to create a competitive edge over its competitors. Maruti Suzuki-an automobile company in India detected a first mover advantage. They detected a sudden rise of interest in the sedan industry, allowing them to produce the first major low cost sedan in India-Esteem.The sale of the Esteem created a major rise of revenue for the company allowing the company to become the most popular automobile company in India.

Thus marketing a product is necessary but it is more important for a company to analyze the market and take advantage of early warning signals and create first mover advantages.Companies should thus conduct market research so that they can make use of the information productively to achieve technological and economic efficiency.

First Nations Comes First!

Legal and Political reasons are major reasons for businesses to shut down today and the First Nations play a role in doing so as well. The First Nations territories have become out of bounds for business firms to operate in and starting a business on these territories without the consent of the First Nations has become almost next to impossible. Therefore,it has become increasingly important for business firms to be aware of the legal constraints involving the use of First Nation territories.Business Firms should draw out a general plan in advance to tackle such threats that could possibly affect their business.

territory

The firms should realize that using these territories will cost them extra-so they should devise their plan accordingly so as to suit their cost structure. The increasing growth of Ethics in a business has created a need for companies to handle such issues with care.It is also important for the firms to go through with their plans in a respectful manner so that they not only maintain the dignity of the First Nations but also get the territories that they need so as to get their business working ethically.

Burger King looks at India.

Burger King’s recent decision to open 12 outlets in India has come as a golden opportunity for the fast-food restaurant to expand in the Asian market.Today India has become one of the largest food consuming nations in the world and the according to the latest survey conducted by the Food Ministry of India, about 76% of the Indian population is a victim to fast food restaurants. The competition in the fast food market in India is low-serving mainly McDonald’s, KFC, Subway, etc.Burger King will have to understand the needs and expectations of the people and create a first mover advantage for their company.

Burger King also made tie-ups with Ebay – an online store operating in India for promoting and selling the famous”whopper”-the burger patty.Buyers can pre order the whopper from Ebay before the actual launch of the Burger King stores in India. This strategy is a creative one as it would not only promote Burger KIng as a brand in India but also would increase the revenue stream of the company even before it starts operating in India.

Secret hospitals to treat the wounded!

The current update on Syria has left the world puzzled as the government of Syria is imprisoning all those doctors who are trying to cure the wounded protesters.Secret Hospitals have been formed by activists to treat the wounded. These hospitals use empty coke cans as equipment. The secret hideout hospitals are still operating and there are several doctors who are risking their lives to save other people’s lives. Ramita Navai,a reporter reported that all hospital equipments were kept at a place away from the secret hospitals, so as when raids happened, the equipment could be saved. It was also reported that the wounded protesters were captured by the government and were tortured and killed eventually.

Some military personnel were removed from the military as they refused to kill innocent people. This incident is rather shocking. However, the Syrian Government denies all the claims/allegations of ill treating protesters on them and refuses to agree to anything said by the media.

Expanding Emirates

Emirates- a well known United Arab Emirates based airline company, recently voted as the best airline company is now looking to expand its flying routes to more places in the United States. This seems like a strategy as they are expanding far and wide and as said in the article-they are willing to land a plane anywhere which has passengers and a runway for a jumbo jet to land. Competing airlines such as Delta,United and American do not support this strategy of Emirates as it poses as a threat to the american airline industries.

Emirates has lately ordered 150 Boeing 777X jumbo for 56billion dollars, the largest purchase made in terms of cost in the history of aviation.Emirates Airlines’ president Tim Clark said that they would have bought 50-60 more Airbus a380’s if their engines were newer and more fuel efficient.Emirates also plans to have more flights going to different places that do not connect through Dubai creating a wider network of travel. Many airline companies have accused Emirates of competing unfairly but Emirates has rejected all the accusations and continues with the same strategy. It will be interesting to see how the American Airline carriers react to this strategy formulated by Emirates, and if Emirates is actually successful in implementing it.

Boeing flies back in!

Agreeing with David Cojocar’s post, I feel that Boeing recently made a comeback in the airline industry after the production of the 787-Dreamliner.All the Boeing Dreamliners were called back for repair by the American based company due to the faulty production of the Rolls-Royce engines.RyanAir’s recent investment in the new fuel efficient and stylish Boeing 737 has brought Boeing right back on the top.RyanAir recently ordered  100 new 737 MAX 200 aircraft and they are expected to order 100 more making it the second largest order of airplanes after Indigo Airlines.RyanAir plans to “change the game” in the low cost airline sector as the airline plans to add 8 additional seats to its existing seat capacity.

ryanair-aircraft-(2)

However,I disagree with David on one point.I feel that the US Government cannot or will not bail out Boeing as Boeing is the only major American based Aerospace company.Even though Boeing had its downfalls,Boeing can never go out of business as it is the biggest competitor of Airbus and people still have faith in the airplanes manufactured by Boeing. Thus to prevent the airline industry from becoming a monopoly,Boeing must continue business.

And the winner is…INDIA!

On Wednesday,Sep 24th,2014,India’s Mangalyaan Space probe satellite entered the orbit of Mars making history.India’s satellite was one of the most cost effective satellites to have been built so far.Costing $74 Million, the satellite cost less than the movie Gravity. It took the satellite 299 days to reach the orbit of Mars.India relied on its tested technology which helped to build this cost efficient satellite. The cost of a kilometer travelled by the satellite was 6 Rupees, much less than an auto rickshaw ride in India which costs 10 Rupees for a kilometer. This shows how cost efficient the satellite was made.India also became the first country to have ever reached Mars in it’s First attempt.

529140_1394467910791149_1373562911_n

India’s$74 million dollar satellite is approximately 5.3 times less costly than the European Space Orbiter and approximately 9.4 times less costly than the Nasa Mevan proving that Indian technology is far more superior than many others. This trip to Mars was a success for India as it proved the power of the Indian Space Research Organization and broadened the market for ISRO by promoting the sale of spacecraft hardware and software, leases transponders, and—most spectacularly—builds and launches satellites for others.

Ethics-Indian Tradeoff?

Ratan Tata-The Chairman of Tata Motors(One of the biggest automobile companies in India)said-“If you choose not to participate in [corruption], you leave behind a fair amount of business.”India has become a major hub for companies to start their business due to cheap labour, land and various other factors but for a business to thrive in a country like India-does the functioning of the business have to be unethical? There have been many scams or scandals as of late-the 2G Spectrum Scam,Satyam Scandal,Commonwealth Games Scam, etc. Does this mean that all the big companies in India are corrupt? The mangers refer to this this type of working as”Jugaad” which means to find you way to get what you want.In India most of the companies follow this system of Jugaad where they use unfair means to manipulate things and make things in their favour.

Today,Some politicians have revolted against this form of corruption. The Lok Pal Bill was formulated to eradicate corruption from the System but it never got passed in the Constitutional Parliament of India. The big Question right now is that -Do the businessman still want the Indian System to be corrupt or do they want to mend the system and work ethically to achieve their goal.
