Sliced Mango Collective

Sliced Mango Collective is a youth organization that centers Filipinx identity and cultures. They are composed of Filipinx youth whose collective values include cultivating a sense of belonging and providing a space for Filipinx youth to connect with one another and their heritage. Through creating zines and hosting low-cost community events, they hope to engage Filipinx youth in celebrating their culture and identity through art and performance–specifically through the lens of decolonization, anti-racism, and intersectional feminism.

Projects:

Kuwentong Pamamahay

For this semester, we’d like students to engage with a project from earlier this year—Kuwentong Pamamahay. Since this project launched, we’ve been hoping to increase circulation and engagement, particularly with members of the Filipino community. Our hope is that this project (1) continues intergeneration and intercommunity conversations about oral histories, migration, and community, (2) generates more community-based research and projects related to the themes, and (3) generates creative and artistic responses to the stories and themes being shared. As students who may be from the Filipino community or from communities with similar histories, we encourage you to engage in this project in ways that are meaningful to you.
