Face 2: Type of Offering

Adaptive Learning Technologies can be loosely grouped into three different categories.

Closed systems

  • provide existing course content that educators can immediately implement in their classroom
  • do not allow the teacher to adjust content, pacing or sequence to meet their own unique curricular objectives

Open systems

  • afford teachers control over all configurations of the learning environment
  • simply support teacher generated content and, therefore, can be time consuming for the teacher to implement

Hybrid systems

  • contain existing lessons and activities and teachers are provided some control over the sequence of activities
  • gaining popularity as they balance the time required to develop an adaptive learning course while still providing teachers some control over the content and pacing of learning activities
