Arianna Dagnino<\/a>\u2019s cultural and professional experience crosses many borders and five continents. Born in Genoa, Italy, she studied in London, Moscow and Boston before entering journalism and international reporting, which led her to spend several years in Southern Africa and Australia and travel across China and the Middle East (see her\u00a0travel website,<\/a> Nomads.it<\/a>).<\/p>\n She currently lectures in Italian Studies and conducts research in the fields of Transcultural Studies,\u00a0Translation Studies<\/a>\u00a0and Film Adaptation at the\u00a0University of British Columbia\u00a0<\/a> after earning a PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of South Australia and a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at the\u00a0University of Ottawa<\/a>\/School of Translation.<\/p>\n She has published books \u2013 both in Italian and English \u2013 of fiction and creative nonfiction, as well as on digital technologies, global mobility and transcultural flows. Among them,\u00a0Transcultural Writers and Novels in the Age of Global Mobility<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Purdue UP, 2015),\u00a0Fossili<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>(Fazi Editore, 2010),\u00a0Jesus Christ Cyberstar<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Ipoc, 2009\/2004),<\/em>\u00a0Uoma<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Mursia, 2000) and\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>I nuovi nomadi<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/em>(Castelvecchi, 1996).<\/p>\n In 2019 she published the novel The Afrikaner<\/em> (Guernica, Toronto, 2019; https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/afrikaner), which is inspired by the five years she spent in South Africa as an international reporter. Together with her colleague Dr. Ernest Mathijs at UBC Dagnino has also worked on a film adaptation of her novel.<\/p>\n Dagnino is a member of the\u00a0Writers\u2019 Union of Canada<\/a>, the\u00a0Literary Translators\u2019 Association of Canada<\/a> and the\u00a0Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia<\/a>.
