Definition – “diversities can participate in the creation of an idea of the institution that allows racism and inequalities to be overlooked” (pg.14) Ahmad explains how universities are being continuously ‘instituted’ in their processes of recruitment or employment. The result of this is a substantial number of white bodies in higher education (e.g. students, administrators, faculty) and therefore they appear unmarked or invisible whereas the marked bodies are known as the other ‘diverse’ group.

The aims of Ahmad’s research revolved around diversity workers in higher education institutions. This work was intended to promote equal educational and employment opportunity regardless of race, gender or ethnicity.
