In Support of the Asian Community

In light of the wave of anti-Asian hate crimes and rhetoric we wanted to extend our support to our Asian community members. Anti-Asian violence in North America has extended beyond the time of COVID-19, but has increased due to the racist and xenophobic discourse blaming Asian people for the pandemic. We recognise that the attacks in Atlanta were specifically targeted at Asian women, and wanted to extend our support to women in the community. We strongly reject discrimination, racism, xenophobia, sexism, and gender-based violence in all its forms and will continue working to create action in the area of diversity, inclusion and equity within our department and community.

To our Asian community members, as well as the women in our community, we stand with you in your grief and pain, and hope that you are allowed the space to process this in your own way.
