Reading Aarman’s article on whether or not Canada should invest more of its resources into global sustainability as opposed to other projects, my interest is sparked as I take a genuine interest into this topic, as at my high school sustainability was a highly debated topic, and there was a large amount of resources spilled into finding the best way to maximize our province and in this case our country resources in the best way possible.
The truth is carbon-based economics is a problem for our biosphere. Fossil fuel alternatives and renewable energy needs to be advanced as quickly as possible. While larger economies have a much larger funding to work with, Canada needs to focus on its strong-points: having one of the most diverse biological environment in the entire world. Canada has approx “ 397.3 million hectares (ha) of forest”. That is unheard of ranking it top 3 in the world. Let alone it has make up 70% of Canada’s viable land. WIth our resources, Canada should be looking to invest more funds into developing solar, hydro and wind power. We have the opportunity and the ingenuity to create a better world, and I can guarantee other countries will follow the movement. Green is the future and Canada has to be a part of that future.
