The question has been raised that ” If the United Nations was fully funded why would we need the Arc or social enterprise”?
I believe that the Arc as well as social enterprise is necessary regardless whether the UN was fully funded or not. I will talk to Arc first: First of all, I can talk from a personal perspective when I say the Arc program is of interest to me; I believe it would be the experience of a life time. It gives students the opportunity to create a relationship between the communities of South Africa. This experience would be irreplaceable and if Arc never existed students would be excluded from the opportunity to participate. It is not just about the funds being raised, I believe of course that that is important. That being said the experience and providing students with that knowledge and experience is priceless in my opinion. For aspiring entrepreneurs such as myself, I believe this would be the ultimate experience to contribute to a positive cause as well as garner experience in the field that you want to pursue as a career.
Social Enterprise allows individuals to become more experienced in the field they desire. Even if the UN was fully funded the process of social enterprise would not be as efficient as if individual groups went in and created personal relationships with those affected by poverty.
That is my opinion.
