What up Comm 296?!
Let me start off by saying that this is my first blog ever so dont expect anything that will blow your mind….not yet at least! I’m learning, so hopefully as the weeks go on my blogs will get a little more interesting. So let me tell you all a little about myself. I’m a second year Sauder student and I hope to specialize in Marketing….for now. I was born and raised in Richmond and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Like almost every other Vancouverite I’m a huge Canucks fan and some other things I enjoy doing are playing hockey, watching TV , chilling out and taking long walks on the beach while the sun is setting….. just kidding about that last one. OK sorry to bore you with that stuff about me, lets talk about some marketing shall we?
So there is this video that one of my buddies sent to me and he told me that I just had to watch it. Before I explain it, I’m gonna say that its an ad thats trying to raise awareness about testicular cancer. The commercial is obviously aimed at men, and whats a better way to grab a guy’s attention than sex? So, in the commercial is the one of the girls from S Club 7 named Rachel Stevens, and shes pretty much using her sex appeal to get the viewer to follow her instructions. You’ll have to watch it to understand. It seems like the ad is about something totally different (if you think like a normal teenage guy) but its only in the last 15 seconds or so when you find out that the commercial is about testicular cancer and it has an important message. I found it to be a highly effective marketing strategy to get the message across to the target audience as it keeps guys glued to the screen. It sure worked on me. It really caught my attention and I thought it was something worth sharing with the world. This commercial did its job: I did what it told me to do and the message got through to me, although it wasn’t for me to go out and buy something. Well done marketing team, well done.
Heres the video to see for yourself. Did it work on you?
