{"id":46,"date":"2010-12-02T04:18:54","date_gmt":"2010-12-02T12:18:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/alanlee\/?p=46"},"modified":"2010-12-02T04:18:54","modified_gmt":"2010-12-02T12:18:54","slug":"the-cultures-importance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/alanlee\/2010\/12\/02\/the-cultures-importance\/","title":{"rendered":"The Culture&#8217;s Importance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a company, an employee\u2019s happiness, behavior, attitude and innovation are all greatly influenced by one thing and that is the company\u2019s organizational culture.\u00a0 As Dov Siedman has elaborated employees are extrinsically motivated by their wages but they can be intrinsically motivated as well to work.\u00a0 As a company moves away from the simple carrot and sticks (rewards versus punishment) system and towards a more complex and positive style of engagement within its infrastructure then the company can grow from within.<\/p>\n<p>As Dov Siedman has said \u201corganizations that harness and support the most inexpensive and abundant source of energy\u2014human energy\u2014will generate the ideas, connections, collaborations, behaviors, and innovations they need to mitigate the threats and maximize the opportunities that our morally and ethically interdependent marketplace poses\u201d. This makes me wonder as to why you do not see this type of development set as a standard within companies. This questioned whether or not companies are just unwilling to change their structure, pay some extra costs or if truly they do not see the long term benefits of achieving this. Then again I guess for some companies, they are unable to achieve such things, probably unwilling to or lacking the financial backing.
