Hello Classmates!
My name is a Alanna and I am a 5th year Sociology student. Though I attend UBC Vancouver, my family and my roots remain in Toronto – I am looking forward to getting back to them when this semester (my final semester!) has finished. I took this class for a few reasons, the first is I have taken a class with Erika Paterson and I really like the way she formats her courses, the constant requirement for participation means I cannot slack off and get myself in trouble. The second and most prominent reason I took the class is to learn technical business writing. Once I graduate I plan on pursuing a career in crisis communications. It is a dynamic profession that requires one to be proper and concise. As an Arts student, I have not taken business class and thought ENG 301 could help me be more prepared for my future. Learning the ins and outs of technical business writing now, at the beginning of my career, could make it something that sets me apart from other candidates – something I need in the highly competitive field that is crisis communications.
In my spare time you can find me serving at a restaurant on West 4th, spending time with my friends, in law library (my nook!) or at hot yoga. I love Vancouver and the five years that I have spent here! That being said, I do look forward to getting back to my cold, hustling city that is Toronto!
