The creation of this Web Folio has been a very rewarding experience. It has been fantastic to work through the process of setting up a website showcasing my work, and even more so to review and reflect on that work. I have found certain aspects of the creation of this Web Folio to be challenging as well.
My favourite aspect of setting up this Web Folio was creating the commentaries on each of the assignments in the Best Work section. Many assignments were completed throughout the course, and it was interesting to think about the successes and challenges of each of them. It also allowed me to reflect on the writing techniques that I have learned throughout the course. For example, this course has emphasized the importance of the peer review process in creating a solid piece of writing. Additional perspective allows for the identification of weak arguments, unfamiliar terminology, and unclear statements. These can be difficult to identify after creating a first draft. My assignments certainly would not have been as strong without the additional perspective I gained through these exercises.
I found it challenging to set up and structure the website properly. I went through several revisions of the format before I settled on one that I liked. Originally, my intention was to bundle the Best Work section into one page, with the commentaries and links to assignments laid out chronologically. Ultimately I found that this layout was too cluttered, and decided that dedicating a page to each assignment looked nicer. It seems that when it comes to website design, it is difficult to know what you want until you start to see things come together.
I have very much enjoyed setting up this Web Folio. I hope to maintain this site going forward, and use the skills I have developed to create similar sites throughout my career.
