This assignment was an exercise in writing and addressing complaint letters in a courteous manner. There were two components to the assignment. The first was to write a complaint letter to a business based on a personal experience. The second was to write a letter addressing the complaint. Both letters had to be courteous, but firm. The complaint letter was meant to outline a situation that had occurred while using the services of a given business. It was also meant to ask for compensation in some form. The response was meant to be polite, but not provide the complete compensation requested. Instead, the response was meant to offer some alternative compensation in the most respectful manner possible.
This assignment was quite enjoyable to work on. I wrote a complaint letter based on an incorrect order I had received from Uber Eats. The exact situation I detailed had not occurred, however, I had been in similar situations where I did not receive the food that I had paid for. The company is normally quite good for providing refunds, and luckily I have not had to actually write them a letter. This was the first complaint letter that I have ever drafted, and so it was interesting to work through the process of figuring out what information I would include, and what I would ask for in this situation. Writing the response was a situation that I was more familiar with, having worked in client-facing roles in my career. I still found this aspect to be enjoyable given the scenario I created for the assignment.
