Subject: Software Engineering Internship Position with Microsoft
Dear Ms. Smith,
Are you looking for a capable, and creative software engineer who is focused on quality and customer experience? If so, please consider my application for the Software Engineering Intern position. As a student in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), I believe that my coursework in Object Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Models of Computation coupled with my extensive work experience in software implementations make me an excellent addition to your company. My experience extends from constructing software applications with ReactJS, JavaScript, and Java, to managing implementations of complex enterprise software at large organizations.
Through my educational experience and initiative in taking on personal projects, I have created a technical skillset directly applicable to this position. At UBC, I completed a course in Object-Oriented Programming where I developed a strong working knowledge of both Java and Object-Oriented Design. I was placed at the top of my class for this course, completing it with a 94% final grade. In completing the course, I was able to build these skills by working on academic projects, including a recipe manager application. Through building several personal projects, including my own portfolio website and a space-themed Instagram clone, I have developed a strong working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and the ReactJS framework. Pushing these applications to web hosting platforms such as AWS GitHub IO has provided me with a working knowledge of web application servers. While I am still honing my skills in data structures and algorithms, I am currently completing a course on this topic and am eager to improve my abilities.
My professional experience has also provided me with a skill set that will allow me to excel in the non-technical components of the role. For four years I was a Consultant at Copperleaf Technologies, where I was responsible for interfacing between clients, and our various development teams. In this position, I worked with clients and product development to design and implement custom software features and integrations. This involved extensive testing with the QA and product release teams and collaborating with the DevOps group to ensure successful and timely deployments. Coordinating so many groups simultaneously has provided me with an excellent ability to communicate and collaborate with technical and non-technical teams alike.
Each of my references will confirm I am a hardworking and reliable individual, capable of rising to meet any challenge.
Thank you for your time in reviewing my application. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you further regarding my qualifications. Please call me at (604) 340-7273 or e-mail me at clements.alexander@outlook.com at your earliest convenience to schedule an interview.
Sincerely,
Alexander Clements
