This assignment was intended to provide details on the progress made in the initial stages of the Formal Report writing process. By this point, it was expected that surveys and interview questions were created to conduct the research, and that an outline of the report was created. It was also expected that a research plan was created, a writing schedule was drafted, and that the report purpose, significance, and audience were flushed out.
I found this assignment to be beneficial in keeping the writing process on track. Drafting the outline for the report makes one think about the important considerations in a feasibility study. It helps to identify the areas of research that need to be completed, and how the data should be presented. Once the outline has been completed, it is much easier to to complete the research plan and writing schedule. While it was helpful to plan out the writing schedule, I did not stick to it perfectly. One of the professors that I had planned to interview became sick, and I could not schedule an interview with the other. I had to contact several other professors to obtain interviews, and was eventually able to proceed. This caused delays in the research gathering process. With the writing plan in place, however, it was easy to identify the other areas of the report that could be completed while I was waiting to complete the research. All in all, I did find it very helpful to have the writing plan to act as a guide through the research and writing process. Despite some hiccups, I was pleased with the first draft of the Formal Report, and of course the final draft as well.
