Species Point-of-View Story (Tutorial 6)

There are so many critters out there!  But often the big mammals get all the attention.  For this project we created a story to engage children aged 8-12, with the goal of making them care about some of the smaller species in the ocean.  For my project, I told the story of Spike, the giant pacific sea cucumber.

I was inspired to write a story about Spike when I met a sea cucumber as I was exploring tide pools, and realized I knew nothing about them.  Looking at it’s bright colours and spikes, I was not even sure if I could safely touch it.  As soon as I got back to my laptop I went down a rabbit-hole researching sea cucumbers on our coast.  Here is the moment I met Spike:
