My top 6 highlights & learnings:
- Friday’s Sointula visit – After school I took the ferry to Sointula to meet LC. We got to feed alpacas (just because we were in the right place at the righttime), visit the orca rubbing beach at Bere Point (sadly there were no orcas) and eat the tastiest halibut burgers at the harbour. It is such a sweet little community!
- Thursday’s book reading – I got to read a Piggy & Gerald story (Mo Willems) to one class. I really put my heart into acting out the voices, and characters and the students were so engaged! I love read alouds and being expressive, and the kindies were so responsive to it!
- 5 finger breathing – I saw one of the teachers do this with her class and I loved the visual and meditative aspects of it.
- Saturday’s fishing trip – CM introduced us to his neighbours who offered to take us out on their boat. We fished for salmon, ate lunch on a secluded island, saw white-sided dolphins and humpbacks, and ‘fed’ eagles. Such a unique way to see the surrounding areas!
- Weeding as PE – The rowdiest, most high energy boys loved this the most!
- Being in kindergarten – I got so many compliments and cuddles! Also the students have such vivid imaginations that their stories are always fascinating, though somewhat hard to follow.

This week was filled with adventure and activities that have been enriching and exciting! Isn’t is great that there are outdoor classes for highly energetic boys, enthralled kindergarten listeners to stories read with drama and expression, and five finger breathing to help students settle and self-regulate. All of these are wonderful tool take aways for your future classroom.
The whale watching (even with no sightings), halibut burgers, alpaca feeding, and fishing experiences sound fabulous. It is such beautiful country you are in!
I am looking forward to reading more about your adventures next week!
