About Me

Hi there!

My name’s Allen Tseng and here are a few facts about me:

EDUCATION

  • I am currently a fourth-year standing Transportation & Logistics/Supply Chain Management student at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia (UBC)
  • I spent my first year in post-secondary at Langara College studying Kinesiology, but I decided it wasn’t for me so I transferred out of the faculty and into a closer university
  • I spent my following two years at Kwantlen Polytechnic University studying business, before transferring to UBC

RECENT EXPERIENCES

I’ve worked in two very different industries on a short-term basis (up to a year). Most recently (over the summer of 2014), I worked with DeBrand Service Inc., a local, innovative small-business that handles corporate waste such as damaged-goods, product recalls, and end-of-life product waste in a very environmentally-friendly manner. As an operations staff, I processed large volumes of daily throughput with a team, where we consistently created more efficient processes of handling the material. I was also involved in setting key metrics and performance indicators to establish an incentive, piecework system.

Prior to that, I was involved in the Canadian telecommunications industry as a Mobile Specialist at Best Buy Mobile for a year, dealing primarily with cellphone and cellphone plans. This role provided me a vast knowledge base of: how the industry works, what each carriers offers at certain price points, the capabilities of the majority of phones on the market, and the different behaviours of mobile consumers. More importantly, it taught me important sales and customer service skills that could be applied to many different situations in order to satisfy customers while still meeting goals.

In terms of involvement at UBC, I am currently involved with UBC Entrepreneur Projects, more commonly known as eProjects, as their Social Media Director. Being a social media director, I am in charge of monitoring and growing their current channels such as: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This means A/B testing what works or receives the most engagement with the followers of each different platform, as well as finding ways to make sure that students at UBC know about the club and attend events. I am also involved with UBC’s Hong Kong Student Association (HKSA) as part of the events department, handling the planning of small and large events on campus with a team.

INTERESTS

  • I am an avid fan of mixed martial arts (MMA). I watch other combat sports as well (boxing, kickboxing, muay-thai) but MMA is what intrigues me the most. I pay attention to most of the relevant promotions (past and present) such as: Pride FC, Strikeforce FC, Elite XC, Dream FC, WSOF, and of course, the UFC.
  • I like hiking and taking advantage of the beautiful British Columbia terrain. Most recently, I hiked Garibaldi Lake.
  • I enjoy most music genres and their sub-genres, although I primarily listen to: hip-hop, r&b, and electronic music.
  • I occasionally like to customize the theme for my Android phone, using different launchers, icon sets, and widgets.
  • Lately, I have developed an interest in social media and digital marketing.
