My name is Allison, and I am a psychology major studying at The University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus. I am 33 years old (better late than never!), and down to my last few courses before graduation. Before UBCO, I began my post-secondary education at Okanagan College. Psychology was my passion but being more into the arts I wasn’t excited about the required statistics courses! But with hard work and determination statistics didn’t stand in the way of pursuing my true passion.
Through my education I have found myself appreciating different areas of study that I didn’t think would have piqued my interest. I have thoroughly enjoyed courses in both Sociology as well as Anthropology. Since I was a child, I’ve always had compassion for others and found pleasure in being a listening ear when needed. I was always an active member in peer mediating positions through middle and high school.
As for my professional goals, in the future I hope to continue on to obtain a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling and open a private practise. Having a job that helps people learn to help themselves in my opinion is one of the most rewarding out there.
That’s enough about me, I look forward to hearing about you and working together in developing our skills to effectively communicate in a professional environment.
