Task 12 – Speculative Futures
Speculative Future Scenario 1: Public education functioning within the flipped classroom model
Inspired by the Leading Lines podcast episode entitled The Future of Digital Literacies (2019), I created a short lesson plan for a science lesson based on the speculation that education will veer towards the flipped classroom model.
Topic: Science – Biology
Part 1 – (At home) Students load the background knowledge tutorial on their home device and watch/listen. This eliminates lecture time by the teacher in the classroom, and allows in-person time to focus on collaborative exercises, exploration, questions, and discussion.
Part 2 – (At school) Students participate in a virtual dissection of several animals via interactive simulation software. This specialized program will allow students to investigate the various body systems with realistic, virtual reality programs. Students will use their personal devices to take notes.
A flipped classroom model would be particularly useful as subjects become more specific in middle and high school (math, sciences, literature, etc) and allow these speciality teachers to spend more in-person time to facilitate ‘doing’ and leading discussion. The teacher who would be leading this lesson would have a curricular speciality in biology and high school education. Target demographic is students aged 15-16.
Speculative Future Scenario 2: A Day in the Life – the 2045 version
Inspired by the article ‘Reboot for the AI revolution’ (2017) and the video ‘Lessons from the AI Mirror’ by Shannon Vallor (2018), I created a Twine showing the influence and proliferation of technology in my life circa 2045.
