Before summer had arrived, I knew ahead of time that I wanted to spend my two months doing something productive, yet different. I wanted a job. Since I was going into Business, I figured I should try to get a job in the field (if possible). With the assistance of my father, I was given a chance to apply to CTC Bank of Canada, a Taiwanese bank originating from, well you guessed it, Taiwan.(http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=112342418)
Within a few weeks, I got called in for an interview, did my training and started to work in the beginning of July.
Although it was difficult at first (such as learning the difference between debit and credit in terms of the BANK), it was an unforgettable experience. Before, I never understood how banks made profit or knew what a mortgage was. I didn’t know what the purpose of term deposits was, and why banks gave money away (using interest). Now I know that, like a bond, a guaranteed investment certificate (term deposit) ensures payments at well-defined future dates (as mentioned in Class 7).
I wanted to blog about my work experience because in those two months, I finally understood the importance of banking institutions and got my first glimpse of commerce in the real world. Not only that, I established some invaluable relationships with my co-workers and supervisors that could potentially bridge my future in a different direction.
It was an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait till summer…so I can go back to CTC and continue my banking adventure!
