In rural Vancouver Island, the natural environment presents a unique and challenging learning environment.
As part of my practicum experience in the UBC teacher education program this year (2016-2017), I completed my own unique community field experience (CFE). Having already experienced teaching in an international context (2013, 2014-2015), I chose to experience rural education so that I might know a completely new context in which learning occurs. I spent my three weeks in Kyuquot, BC and was richly rewarded with a more holistic understanding of teaching, as well as an enhanced formal teaching experience.
