Inquiry

Teaching Inquiry

For our program this year (2016-2017) we had to conduct an inquiry-based project on something that interested us.

During my initial two week practicum, I noticed that students depended on their technology in a serious way. I also noticed that my school had a cell phone policy that allowed teachers to decide how they wanted to address the issue of student technology in the class. This got me wondering, how can a meaningful application of technology support classroom learning?

I will admit, I am not the most tech savvy teacher in the world. So I decided to use this opportunity in my teacher education program to challenge myself by learning about as many new technologies as I could. In less than four months, I have gone from not knowing what a blog was to regularly updating my own! This inquiry project has so far provided me with a mindset to challenge myself professionally, but also develop new skills and literacies to better connect with the world, particularly my students, who themselves see new technologies as inseparable from their everyday lives.
