As said by Yash Modi in his blog ( https://blogs.ubc.ca/yashmodi/ ) Fédération Internationale de Football Association ( FIFA ) faced a torrid time in 2015 when corruption allegations were made against Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA (1998-2015). The ethics committee of FIFA has already banned Blatter and is now serving an 8-year ban. Although, with the investigations on and file being opened again for developments, it still will be the most disgraceful time in their history.

In his blog, Yash rightly wrote about the fans being disappointed and aghast when they came to know about this. Every passionate fan will be rightly hurt to see the image of their sport they love being damaged in such a way and that too by a man holding a prestigious position in the international association.

All the footballing world tried to overcome this together and succeeded but that was a permanent scar which will always be seen with a sore eye. The way all the events panned out took such an ugly shape that deep secrets that were revealed added salt to the wound.

Yash highlighted the importance of ethics and the absence of it in Blatter’s presidency and the urge for FIFA to resurrect it’s dampened image to which I completely agree. But he did not mention the steps already being taken to forget that horror which according to me was a bit unfair. The current president Gianni Infantino, who took over in February 2016, also has had investigations on for some of his alleged false pursuits has been cleared of possible ethics violation, is already planning to spread The Beautiful Game and has proposed a 64-team world cup instead of the existing 32-team tournament.

All said and done, but we all need to move forward. Yes, there is a need for improvement, but the only thing we as fans can do is to hope and trust in the current president and believe that he will take all the correct measures and do all he can.

The thing which Yash said in the end didn’t go well with me. It was not FIFA who did something wrong, it was the person who was the president of the association did it. There is a slight difference but definitely a difference. No one can just demean the game because of just few rotten eggs. One can only hope that such a thing does not happen in the future and the game increases its admirers.
