It was at the end of the season in 1990 in which Liverpool lifted the elite Premier League trophy and has failed to do since even after coming agonizingly close to lift it again in the 2013-14 season with just 2 points being the difference. A lot has changed since then even including the name of the championship; the “Premier League” name was first used in the 1992-93 season and then after.

But this year could be different. As said by Steven Kelly in his blog (http://www.espnfcasia.com/club/liverpool/364/blog/post/2985595/liverpool-look-like-title-contenders-wihthout-over-reliance-on-superstars) , Liverpool could challenge for the title this season with their absence in European competitions aiding their potential title run.

Inconsistency had been their major problem in the last season, a fact that had been mentioned in my earlier Liverpool blog ( https://blogs.ubc.ca/aman18/2016/10/16/the-jurgen-klopp-era-liverpool-f-c/ ). They looked unbeatable on their day, but looked awful on their off-days.

But, now the Anfield faithful are optimistic, even though not having the world’s best stars. Jurgen Klopp has focused on the intensity and the work their team has to do on and off the pitch which has yielded positive results this season.

 

This blog is useful and influential as it seconds my earlier blog as well as it tells how far Liverpool have come under the leadership of Jurgen Klopp.

Business Impact

Liverpool in the recent past was known to be a selling club. They helped a player reach its potential and then sold him to another club for a staggering fee. This might look encouraging in the cash flow statement but it had other negative consequences too. Fans always feared losing one of their main team players the next transfer window, plus the money received was invested poorly. Liverpool lost its power of attraction to lure big players and ultimately had to work with make-shift players who sometimes even didn’t fit the bill.

Now, the dynamics have changed. Liverpool have started playing ‘Jurgen Klopp’ style of football and have turned the tide towards them. Everybody who is attached to this club wants to play some or the other role or wants to get involved.

The customers have started believing again in the product/services offered by the business. A managerial change has focused on basics and his trusted style of play which has differentiated the club from many others. The focus has been to build world class players rather than just buy them.

Hoping not to jinx it but as a Liverpool fan I want this season to end the drought of a league title win which the fans have craved for.
