My experience in ENGL 301 was a long, four-month journey. Before the course, my writing was unclear and lacked direction. Thanks to this course, my writing has grown incredibly. Writing is a lifetime, ongoing process that we have to keep tending to. As a result of this class, I feel more confident in writing and editing my work. That is why on this page, I will showcase the best work I have done, and link to the assignments that were revised according to peer and professor feedback.
On this page, I will include the following:
- Revised Definition Assignment
- Revised Peer Review of the Definition Assignment
- Revised Formal Report Proposal and Progress Report with Surveys
- Revised Proposal Memo
- Revised LinkedIn Best Practices memo
- Revised Memo to Evan Crisp
- Revised Complaint letter and Response Letter, and
- Revised Peer Review of a Formal Report.
Revised Definition Assignment
In this assignment, we had to define a term from our field or major. The definition was tailored towards a non-technical audience. The definitions included parenthetical, sentence and expanded definitions. The word I chose to define is “altruism,” which is one of the most important terms in psychology. My revised definition is here: Revised Amela Sejdic’s Defining “Altruism.”
Revised Peer Review of the Definition Assignment
We had to do a peer review of a peer’s Definition Assignment. In this assignment, we have to analyze and review the strengths and weaknesses of their definitions. We also had to pinpoint areas they can improve and state our general impressions. I got to peer review MacAylee’s assignment on defining “NCRMD.” My revised peer review is here: Revised Peer Review of MacAylee’s NCRMD Definitions.
Revised Formal Report Proposal and Progress Report with Surveys
The Formal Report Proposal assignment allowed us to propose the problem we aim to solve in our communities. We had to state our problem, introduce the background, the target audience who will view the proposal as well as additional details such as the scope of inquiry. I revised my proposal according to peer and professor feedback here: Revised Formal Report Proposal Amela Sejdic
We also had to create our survey questions and get them approved before sending them to people to fill out. In the progress report, we report to Dr. Erika Paterson and describe the current progress we have made with our formal report. In this post, we send our survey questions for approval. You can view my revised progress report with surveys here: Revised Progress Report with Surveys Amela Sejdic.
Revised Proposal Memo
In this memo, I briefly summarized the contents of my formal report proposal. I also share the link to my formal report proposal directed towards the professor. I revised this according to feedback here: Revised Email Memo for Formal Report Proposal Amela Sejdic.
Revised LinkedIn Best Practices memo
In this memo, I concisely stated all the important research on the best practices on creating LinkedIn profiles and networking. I did not have much to revise, according to feedback. You can find it here: Amela Sejdic’s Revised Memo Concerning LinkedIn Best Practices.
Revised Memo to Evan Crisp
In this memo, we had to write a hypothetical memo to a UBC student Evan Crisp, who was looking for advice on how to write to a professor to ask about entering a course. This memo had to demonstrate a YOU attitude, focusing solely on the reader. I did not have much to revise, according to feedback. Here is my memo to Evan Crisp: Memo to Evan Crisp with a YOU Attitude Amela Sejdic.
Revised Complaint Letter and Response Letter
In this assignment, I had to write about a recent experience having an issue with an order or service. I entered the role of writing an imaginary response, entering the shoes of a worker at that company responding to the customer. I did not have any recent issues with orders, so I actually based my situation off of the experiences I observed while working as a Sales Associate in the Kitchen & Bath Department at The Home Depot. You can find my revised letters here: Revised Complaint & Response Letters Amela Sejdic.
Revised Peer Review of a Formal Report
In this peer review, I reviewed Jason Wu’s report gladly and gave him insightful advice on how to complete his formal report. According to Jason, I really helped him with this peer review. He was able to stay on track and finish his report excellently. According to professor feedback, I did not have much to revise as I demonstrated a lot of helpfulness and a YOU attitude throughout. You can find the assignment here: Revised Peer Review of Jason Wu’s Formal Report Draft.
