{"id":1711,"date":"2011-01-21T22:03:46","date_gmt":"2011-01-22T06:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/?p=1711"},"modified":"2011-01-23T04:24:03","modified_gmt":"2011-01-23T12:24:03","slug":"poster-fun-round-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/2011\/01\/21\/poster-fun-round-two\/","title":{"rendered":"Poster Fun, Round Two!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Chanchan here.\u00a0 Day 4 of all of the elections hullabaloo, and I&#8217;m tired already.\u00a0 I\u2019ve already exercised my \u201cdemocratic right\u201d so all of you should too.\u00a0 Unfortunately, since most of the posters for BoG and Senate are trainwrecks-in-action, I see no point in subjecting my powers of shallow that far.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candidates for VP Academic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Parson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/166628_493233796685_509541685_6229802_1908846_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/166628_493233796685_509541685_6229802_1908846_n-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for Matt, his real poster is much better.\u00a0 Unfortunately for Matt, it looks exactly like everyone else\u2019s.\u00a0 I wonder if his photo shoot was at Wreck, as the scenery is just too UBC-promotions-material for it to be anything else. (You can see the photo at his\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattparson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">website.<\/a>)\u00a0 If this is at Wreck, the location is very apt.\u00a0 It perfectly describes his multi-colored Facebook campaign, complete with the devil\u2019s font itself, Comic Sans.\u00a0 However, it has been shown that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psfk.com\/2011\/01\/ugly-fonts-can-make-you-smarter.html\" target=\"_blank\">things written in ugly fonts can be recalled better<\/a>, so he might be catching onto something.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jennifer Wang<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You have avoided my scrutiny (not criticism, Omar) by being virtually absent on paper.\u00a0 Congratulations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justin Yang<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/justiny.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/justiny-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Your poster bears a striking resemblance to both British wartime propaganda and Taylor\u2019s new favorite picture.\u00a0 So you should appeal to both history fanatics and girls attracted by sparkly things, right?\u00a0 Maybe not the former; I have read some critique of the finer nuances of your campaign. (Prod me if this is you!) Keeping calm and carrying on is a very different route than keeping calm and voting for you.\u00a0 At least you have capitalized upon an iconic movement without butchering it\u00a0completely.\u00a0 Relatively so anyways.\u00a0 Let\u2019s be grateful for small miracles though; not a buzzword in sight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candidates for VP Admin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gord Katic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/katic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/katic-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How many skinny scarves does it take to build an AMS Council?! Come on.\u00a0 You look like your emerging from the fog\u2026 and you can\u2019t see a damn thing.\u00a0 Great look for someone who is supposedly leading us toward more engaged student community.\u00a0 Reading your poster was like reading an academic journal; too many words, and I gave up half way through.\u00a0 TL, DR.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure if \u201cbureaucratic nightmare\u201d is the proper term you are looking for\u2026 an exercise in tact you are not, Gord.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike Silley<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Chanchan could not acquire a large enough version of the poster.\u00a0 Apologies.\u00a0 Go look on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/event.php?eid=184268714935313\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a> if you really want.)<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s something about argyle sweaters that makes Chanchan grin.\u00a0 +1, friend.\u00a0 -2, however, for writing an essay in a space meant for twenty or so words.\u00a0\u00a0 I do realize that for all my harping on poster design, it is rarely the fault of the candidate, rather their poster designer, but it\u2019s your face on it.\u00a0 You should be able to decide what smile you want to show up on your poster, Mike.\u00a0 Too bad all your photos look the same.\u00a0 All in all, pretty average &#8211; but when average is sub-par, you might want to re-evaluate where you stand.\u00a0 It&#8217;d be awesome if I could actually READ what you wrote on your poster&#8230; but I guess I&#8217;ll have to make do with ogling your argyle sweater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kathy Yan Li<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/163662_485178912233_535802233_6675620_3543935_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/amsconfidential\/files\/2011\/01\/163662_485178912233_535802233_6675620_3543935_n-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For someone that\u2019s vaguely referencing Ke$ha, I expected more skeeviness and less conservative button ups.\u00a0 But don\u2019t worry, I know someone who can take care of the Ke$ha references for you.\u00a0 The chalkboard crown is reminiscent of a sticker picture (I would know, I\u2019m Asian, but so are you, Kathy) and there is a strong lack of glitter, despite the \u201cGlitter Up\u201d tagline.\u00a0 Despite these shortcomings, I find myself strangely drawn to your poster, which is more than I can say for anything else on those forsaken bulletin boards across campus.\u00a0 So, props, I guess.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion:\u00a0 If you run for a Council position with a portfolio that doesn&#8217;t begin with A, you&#8217;ll be more interesting by default.
