Short Practicum and the Podium Conundrum

At the podiumartifacts category

October seems like a long time ago when I stood behind this projector and taught my first drawing class. I was nervous and nearly sure that the students wouldn’t like what I had to say. It turned out to be just fine. The nerves passed with the weeks and I stopped spending so much time working from just this one spot. Even though the idea of a teacher who stands in one spot and lectures is disappearing, and not one that fits with an art class very well, I found myself replicating the teaching I remembered from my time in high school. As time passed I found different spots for different activities, lecturing, demoing, just working the room making sure that all the students got a chance to get my attention and help. Eventually I was comfortable enough to stop replicating the teaching I remembered and start behaving like the teacher that I wanted to be.
